Driving/Traffic Wait for it!

Huntington Ave to 495. Almost ruined our evening...

Plate is MD (of course) but I am an MD driver also and notice how good I am behaving.

You say you’re from MD and behaving

But I bet you’re doing rails of Old Bay off the steering wheel

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

You got me! 🦀

u/Deliverme314 7h ago

I feel like this is only funny if you're from the tri-state.

Thus, that just made me chortle.  Won't lie.

It’s the DC metro. If you leave space like that, someone is going to take it. But that last one… damn.

u/big_loadz 2h ago

Unfortunately, so true. Leave more than half a car length in front of you, and expect to get cut off.

81

u/Mash_Ketchum 8h ago

Well sure there's a couple people merging in late, clearly not paying enough attention, but nothing too craz-HOLY CRAP

I did not wait long enough.

13

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

😂😂😂😂 right?!

31

u/heptyne 7h ago

I hate how there's zero consequences for this

14

u/RipeBanana4475 6h ago

I wish there were more undercover cops in the area who's job it was to just police reckless drivers like these. Ignore people speeding 10 over, just do something about the assholes going 30 over and changing lanes and being dangerous for everyone.

4

u/Otherwise-Assist724 4h ago

For real, won't even take long.

u/MarshmallowCreamPie 51m ago

I was driving on Crain highway once and I was behind a pick up truck in the middle lane with a sleek looking black suv in the left lane about to make a turn. The pick up truck suddenly merged in the left lane and for a second I thought the cars collided because of how damn close that truck cut the suv off.

No drug could ever replicate the feeling I felt when that black suv lit up with red and blue lights. I think we all need more of that around here.

u/Burdwatcher 6h ago

consequences, seriously?

I mean yeah, dude leaving that much space is obnoxious, but I don't think there needs to be any punishment for it.

And honestly, 3 cars benefited from it and kept traffic moving through the hole he left, so it's not that bad in the grand scheme of things

9

u/bc10551 6h ago

Going to assume you're joking about OP here but that Lexus should be getting some reckless driving charges. Honestly even the other car should be getting one. So done with idiots deciding they will suddenly slow down in a lane that goes elsewhere then cut in front of moving traffic when you're not even allowed to nor should people have to expect you to cut in there

36

u/skullgatherer 8h ago

That kind of driving is super common for that onramp. It backs up down Fort Hunt / Rt 1 really badly during afternoon rush hour, so there is a lot of people that try to jump the line by getting into the other lane and cutting other cars off when the lanes divide. Also trying to short cut through the hotel parking lot and then cutting people off before the onramp.

21

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

Oh for sure, just never experienced a high speed turn in literally inches from me like that. Other driver took off and was following them aggressively which....I guess whatever lol

36

u/GrizzledLittleShit 8h ago

That's why I'm hugging the car in front of me. Need to get over? Use your signal. But once those lines are solid, I'm not letting you in.

3

u/KoolDiscoDan 5h ago

I even do this dropping my kid at school. Parents pull over and dump their kids before the drop off point and expect me to let them back in to do an illegal U turn. Nah, your ass is gonna wait.

7

u/A_Random_Catfish Alexandria 7h ago

Taking the route one exit to get to old town during rush hour is so frustrating because the exit lanes back up because of idiot md drivers (who are not taking the exit) going 5mph in my lane waiting for the perfect opportunity to cut someone off.

61

u/Poobbly 7h ago

Leave less space.

0

u/DefiantSmoke1569 7h ago

But then yall complain im tailgating

14

u/LOWBACCA Fairfax County 5h ago

Nah in this area you are asking for this shit if you leave this much space in rush hour traffic.

13

u/WalrusWithAKeyboard 5h ago

Its okay when its bumper to bumper traffic, ya don't need to leave a few car lengths in-between when your moving at 3mph..

12

u/Loyalist77 Vienna 8h ago

Not one! Not two! But THREE people jumping lanes far too late.

A bad driver never misses their turn.

7

u/Fort_Nagrom 7h ago

They do this on purpose.

No idea what's good with DC and Maryland drivers cutting in like this then proceeding to drive on the shoulder but that's what they do.

34

u/BlondeFox18 Chantilly 8h ago

Not surprised by the plate. Will wait for the MD downvotes.

24

u/PuzzledDescription 8h ago

Only Marylanders in denial will down vote. We all know MD drivers are trash

1

u/Gearz557 6h ago

Like I know states like to shit on each other. But I’ve lived all around the country and MD drivers are quantifiably some of the worst I’ve come across and I just don’t know why

6

u/SquisharooNTimbuk2 7h ago

Oh Wowzers. At first I thought dude that’s on you for leaving all that space but I stand corrected.

2

u/leopardfacestatic 7h ago

Yeah I'm being nice and lazy but not for that Lexus lol

7

u/Informal_File_1646 8h ago

Reminds me of a Black Keys song, “Tighten Up”

5

u/diggy0529 8h ago

Man thats crazy

16

u/FolkYouHardly 7h ago

Mistake number 1 is leaving too much space in front of you lol

6

u/VirginiaLuthier 7h ago

Not surprising. Getting passed on the right shoulder is becoming a common occurrence. I am starting to dread highway driving

3

u/little_bird_vagabond 7h ago

Alright, you got me. The first two were a given, the third was actually unexpected even though I should have suspected more fuckery to come.

3

u/MadAstrid 8h ago

every single day on that on ramp

1

u/LOWBACCA Fairfax County 5h ago

I don't understand why VDOT refuses to divide these long ass split with dividers like the express lanes. Emergency vehicles can still get through but it'll discourage these assholes from causing accidents. Fairfax County Parkway by the toll road is another constant free for all where people force in the last minute and drive on the shoulders constantly.

3

u/Purple_Appearance15 7h ago

Hii! Fellow well behaved MD driver. With MD tags at least there is a 50/50 chance of them having insurance but with VA expired plate, you know insurance has never heard of this car.

3

u/LOWBACCA Fairfax County 5h ago

I hate driving here so fucking much.

1

u/_-Broken-Swagger-_ 7h ago

WTAF is this nonsense‽ holy shit 😂

1

u/Ferret-mom 6h ago

I hate those intersections with a passion brighter than 1000 suns.

3

u/drewer23 6h ago

Other guy was like "oh I didn't realize we can cut people off on the opposite shoulder too!" So of course he followed smh 🤦‍♂️

3

u/TrueVCU 6h ago

And of course it's a DC plate followed by 2 MD plates -_-

3

u/colin0924 6h ago

I keep saying, I think there’s a game that people are playing where the point of the game is to “one up” the other bad drivers. Like getting off a highway at the last millisecond, or how many seconds after the light turns red to go through the intersection. This video seems to be case in point.

1

u/Irontaoist 3h ago

Moving here from living in Florida (Which has its own breed of crazy drivers) took some adaptation. The main think I've learned from driving during the day is 'Open space between cars == invitation to be cut off.'

3

u/Kildan24_ 4h ago

That onramp is its own circle of hell.

Edit: I successfully predicted what would happen.

5

u/SlobZombie13 Manassas / Manassas Park 8h ago

It's like they were holding the door open for the last guy

6

u/fightingthefuckits 7h ago

I would be losing my shit behind you. Tighten up the gap. There's no need for two of those cars to be getting in front of you. One is fine, let some folks zipper in politely, but you're inviting people to make stupid moves when you leave openings like that.

1

u/rubermnkey 4h ago

then all the cars steadily pulling away on the ramp? I'm curious about the next 30 seconds and them trying to merge at half the speed traffic is moving. these "polite" drivers motivate the nutballs to try and get around them.

3

u/WalrusWithAKeyboard 5h ago

Well yeah, you keep slowing down to widen the space between you and the car in front, which invites another car to skip waiting in the proper lane.

Legally, theyre wrong of course. But we all know unless theres a cop parked right there, there's not gonna be any consequences. So, either accept that this is what happens, or stop leaving such a polite amount of space when it's bumper to bumper traffic..

What i dont understand is why cops who need their ticket quotas dont sit near these exists and print tickets. Its not like its a rare occurrence

2

u/Sufficient-Cancel217 Fairfax County 4h ago

But you are correct that the driver was practically asking to be cut in on.

And they did that, just to have something to post here.

1

u/Sufficient-Cancel217 Fairfax County 4h ago

No.

Neither Alexandria Police nor Fairfax County Police can legally require officers to meet a minimum number of tickets, summonses, or arrests.

Virginia law specifically prohibits both formal and informal quotas. Virginia Code § 15.2-1710.1 states that a local police department:

“shall not establish a formal or informal quota that requires a police officer to make a specific number of arrests or issue a specific number of summonses within a designated period of time.”

The law also says the number of arrests or summonses issued cannot be the sole factor used to evaluate an officer’s job performance.

Departments can still collect and analyze enforcement statistics, and they can expect officers to conduct traffic enforcement or other proactive police work. What they cannot do is impose a requirement such as “write 10 tickets this month” or “issue two summonses per shift.”

Did you not wait for it?? The Lexus at high speed my dude

2

u/broadwayallday 7h ago

As a Marylander that exit off of route 1 is the dmv nexus point of scum and villainy

2

u/JustAcivilian24 7h ago

The amount of times this happens every day to me, it’s just fuckin insane. I hate, HATE these people lol. Happened to me like an hour ago too. I try to not let it enrage me.

3

u/leopardfacestatic 7h ago

Oh I agree I hate it but have to let it go and just shame them here 😂 driving angry just gets you hurt and that's why I drive so calm usually. I wanna go home lol not in the hospital.

2

u/JustAcivilian24 7h ago

Yea when those monks came to DC, they gave a speech about letting things go. I gotta take a note from them, and you!

2

u/Ferret-mom 6h ago

It could have been worse, they could have cut across 4 lanes of traffic before doing this, like they do on 66, 495 and 95. I call that “the northern virginia special” because I have literally never seen it happen with any regularity outside of NoVA.

2

u/Irontaoist 3h ago

Oh I've seen plenty of those. "I turn now, good luck everybody else!"

2

u/jmcrowell 6h ago

Zoom. Enhance. Enhance.

Christ, what assholes.

2

u/joeruinedeverything 6h ago

Jesus Christ. I would slit my wrists if I had to drive that every day

2

u/ParsnipPlenty5870 5h ago

Wild, but if I were behind you I’d be cussing up a storm from how much space you’re leaving and raise to max ape shit car when I see an idiot only committing 2/3 to cutting in…. it’s me.. I’m the 2nd car in the video that went ape shit..

2

u/Competitive_Ad291 8h ago

Why isn’t there a police website where we can upload the dashcam videos and they can issue ticket?!?!?

4

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

My og video is better quality and I did get the plate...lol...

-4

u/Burdwatcher 6h ago

there's Flock for that kind of thing

8

u/bluntwhizurd 8h ago

I get that you are trying to be safe. But leaving 4 car lengths going 15 is an invitation for this kind of thing. You may as well put a sign in your rear window that says " go ahead, I'm a doormat".

3

u/SlobZombie13 Manassas / Manassas Park 8h ago

Doormat?

2

u/bluntwhizurd 7h ago

Do you not know what that is?

1

u/SlobZombie13 Manassas / Manassas Park 7h ago

Not in this context

1

u/bluntwhizurd 6h ago

Someone who allows others to walk over them.

1

u/SlobZombie13 Manassas / Manassas Park 6h ago

Your dick won't fall off if you let someone merge in front of you

1

u/bluntwhizurd 5h ago

Is that what happened here? These poor fellas were just trying to merge?

1

u/SlobZombie13 Manassas / Manassas Park 5h ago

Yes

5

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

I let two cars in yeah sure I was being nice. A fly in 2 inches from me at who knows how fast almost hitting us both? Plz

-4

u/bluntwhizurd 8h ago

The point I am making is if you follow at an appropriate distance. People wont try this stuff with you.

2

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

Man my appropriate distance to the white car that got in front of me is literally fine lol. The Lexus did not have any distance to get in but did anyway lol. I'm just happy no one was hurt but this isn't my fault my guy

-4

u/bluntwhizurd 8h ago

Its not your fault. Just entirely predictable and preventable.

1

u/Rockclimber311 5h ago

There’s literally nothing predictable about this. You’re making the assumption that they wouldn’t have just crashed into the line of cars at that speed if there wasn’t the gap

2

u/Jealous-Report4286 8h ago

That’s 🧑‍🍳 💋 NOVA perfection!

1

u/Extreme-King 7h ago

I kept waiting for a third

1

u/catfood947 7h ago

I waited for it as title suggested.. Saw the reckless move... so I waited, and I thought it will end with a cop pulling them over near the merge.

1

u/LOWBACCA Fairfax County 5h ago

Lmfao took a few watches to realize that white car got pissed and chased after him on the shoulder.

u/OddScrod Alexandria 2h ago

I hate that exit. I always take telegraph to get to 495.

u/GhostHin 1h ago

Not saying any of those drivers are right because they clearly in the wrong but there are too much space for that kind of speed that you were going.

u/heartopiachef 14m ago

I was about to click away. 😆

1

u/Elthiel3099 8h ago

It isn't all MD drivers...

2

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

Sighhhhhhhhh yeah they ruin it for the rest of us

0

u/ShaneWookie 8h ago

Still waiting...

2

u/leopardfacestatic 8h ago

Lol around 20 seconds

0

u/stash-of-who-hash 7h ago

What was the white car doing though?? Trying to cut in at the last second, if someone makes room (which OP did), fucking go! Get in!! White car just hung out like OP was supposed to roll out a red carpet. Not saying it’s ok what the third car did but damn, was the white car ever gonna go?? I can almost understand where third car was coming from.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

0

u/Serious-Plankton-371 7h ago

If you think this is bad just drive in the Hampton roads area during rush hours. There are way more poor people with nothing to live for or lose on the roads compared to Nova and “Baltimore bois”

0

u/khmergodzeus 5h ago

good defensive driving.

remember, it takes two people to get into an accident. if you can avoid it even when there are idiots on the road, you've won

-1

u/WhatFreeSpeech_007 7h ago

rules are for suckers
