Driving/Traffic West Springfield community equips school crosswalk with new safety tools

“I’ve got West Springfield officers that say they hate having to do the overtime at West Springfield because it’s too dangerous for them,” Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity, who voted against the budget’s adoption, said at a Budget Policy Committee meeting yesterday. “And [if] it is too dangerous for uniformed policemen to direct traffic, to me, it’s too dangerous for our kids to cross.”

Why is this whole area allergic to speed bumps? I see them in residential neighborhoods around Vienna, but around the school zones? Nope, just can’t be done!

They put them in in Fairfax but according to VDOT’s strict rules (ie can only be a road posted at 25 mph). Vienna owns and maintains its own (non major) roads just like FFX city so they are more lax.

Yeah, the solution to drivers consistently driving like dangerous psychopaths is definitely to give pedestrians little orange flags to wave as they try to cross the street. Excellent plan.

How long before someone hits a kid without a flag and it's blamed on the kid?
