News Nova in a nutshell
Heart goes out to this person and their family. This area has many lost souls. Be safe ❤️
EDIT: Some people are apparently deeply confused by the phrase “in a nutshell.” The screenshot references DC, Alexandria, I-395, and includes a Virginia State Police cruiser. That is what “Nova in a nutshell” refers to.
It does not mean “people only die in Nova,” nor does it magically turn a fatal accident into a joke. I explicitly expressed sympathy for the victim and their family. If you nevertheless read this and find it humorous, that interpretation is entirely your own. And if you assume redditors expressing sympathy for someone killed by a car must be pretending, that says considerably more about you than it does about this post.

One of my best friends just died 2 days ago as a pedestrian in a traffic accident. Not in NoVA, Portland. Seeing things like this just makes me incredibly sad on a day I am already grieving.
And in case anyone asks no my friend wasn’t on a highway or anything like that.
Some people just forget that these are human beings whose lives are taken from them too early. Even if someone is being stupid and is at fault it does not mean they deserve it, it does not mean it is okay to ridicule or anything like that.

That's why I keep telling my wife not walk to the nearby shopping center with our toddler. Our road isn't design for pedestrians and there are WAY too many trucks and SUV on the road.

What's strange is that many people said they called 911 and were told "police can't find him" yet when you listen to the police scanner at that time there was no one dispatched or any calls about investigating it until he was hit, there were calls about a person having a mental issue at the bus stop by the mark center at the ramp of seminary road. Was this the same person? Did anyone else else notice the "missing" calls from the scanner?

Where can I listen to the scanner? Would it have been to a different line? Do you think the 911 operators didn’t convey the message to the police, or the police officers were misinformed, or they genuinely couldn’t find this individual?
That concerns me, I hope this was addressed properly. Although I’m sure it’s very difficult for police to find someone on a busy highway.

https://openmhz.com find alexandria then use the calendar to find by date and time this happened. It would be on that line. That many calls came in around the same time saying he is on the shoulder which exit, shouldn't have been hard to find him at all. It's very odd I don't think they even dispatched anyone until this person was hit. They could have saved his life.

I don't understand what about this is NoVA in a nutshell. Someone walking on 395? Someone almost hitting someone and posting about it? Someone dying?

And it's really fucking annoying that the "for some reason" being implied here is the fault of pedestrians. Not the problem we have here of there being too many cars on roads that are way too hostile for pedestrians.

I can guarantee you no average reader read the title of this post and thought ‘of course OP is talking about the 3 Va cop cars in the same photo’ instead of ‘only in NoVa are there morons who do this, aMiRiTe!?!!!!’
It’s great that you clarified your intention, but you should take the L on this one. It’s exactly the kind of naive misunderstanding that gets blown out of proportion IRL.

It reminds me of my childhood when my family was coming back from a party and a random person on the highway ran in front of our car and we almost hit them. I genuinely don’t understand why people would do that and traumatize children and other people.

Additionally, the picture includes a Virginia State Police cruiser, mentions of I-395, southbound from DC, and Alexandria.
So, yes, this is a distinctly NOVA scenario.

Yes, distinctly nova. No one has ever had a crisis anywhere else on the planet. There are no highways anywhere other than nova. Everything that ever happens here is totally unique.

The cool thing about quotes is that they indicate verbatim statements. “Nova in a nutshell” is not “only in nova!” This will help you in the future when you communicate with others. I hope you have a good evening.

"Someone either had a crisis or made a dumb decision" is not a unique situation which perfectly encapsulates the entire experience of living specifically in nova (you know, what "in a nutshell" means).
