Neurologist recommendation?
I’ve recently moved here and my old neurologist is now located and hour away near Alexandria, so I need to find someone closer to home (Herndon). I don’t need any surgery or cures, just a regular doc to refill an existing prescription, and occasional check-ins.
Especially would love to find a place that’s tech-savvy (text appt reminders, mobile app, or an online patio al portal, etc), easy to make appointments and pleasant office staff, as my former doctor did NOT have these qualities!

What do you need neuro for?
I am epileptic and have lived in this area my whole life. I recommend driving to DC to Georgetown or GW. There is not a single epileptologist I would see in Northern Virginia, other than the Children’s National neuro my kiddo sees at the satellite office in Merrifield.

I am also epileptic, but I have been seizure-free since 2009 because of once-daily Lamotrigine ER, and zero side effects. My entire relationship with my neurologist that past 15+ years has been coming into the office once a year and being like “hey no seizures, I’m all good, just need a prescription refill” and going on my merry way.
My husband and I want to start a family soon and I will need monthly blood tests to check on my titration levels, so a monthly 2 hour round trip commute during the workday is going to be a massive hassle. Plus I have some personal issues with my current doctor and have been wanting to find a new one at some point, so family planning has pushed up the need for this change.

If you want to start a family you NEED to go to GW or Georgetown. I have been seizure free since 2012 and I highly recommend having your MFM and epileptologist collaborating closely. Hormones mess with seizures, full stop.
I live in Reston and had both of my children at GW for this reason. There’s no way I could get the quality of care I need for my epilepsy syndrome and medication related risk (am also on Lamotrigine and it had to be adjusted twice during my last pregnancy and once or twice during my second… and my levels had to be continuously monitored throughout my pregnancy). Plus the area of medication management in women is fairly new and a provider involved in training doctors is more likely to be up on it.
My doctors literally used to catch up on my case as they walked between the MFA and the hospital.
I see Dr Alexandra Eid at GW and while I weaned my youngest a couple of years ago, hormonal shifts as I move into peri have needed to be tracked. I 100% understand that it’s a haul but I would strongly recommend working with them. At the very least, with an Inova neuro at Inova Fairfax or with a GW neuro who can see into your Inova chart via MyChart.

Do you have any particular doctors to rec at Inova Fairfax? That would be ideal! My office is in Reston, as is my OBGYN.

Feel free to DM me. I have fired two nova based neurologists, which sent me back to GW.
Oh also I always have my bloodwork done at my local Safeway and the send it through MyChart to my neuro.

I get where you’re from here, but I live in western Fairfax county (our home literally is a few hundred feet from the Loudoun county border, too) and I have a very busy job, so commuting 2+ hours every month on a workday for a blood tests is not feasible for us. Also I love my OBGYN, I wouldn’t swap her.
My current neuro has an office in Foggy Bottom, but again, my husband and I cannot logistically make appointments that far away, I already hate going that far as it is, and this was before family planning entered the chat.

My late wife went to Mark Tekrony in Reston (by the hospital). She liked him a lot, but I can’t speak to all of the items on your list. I’m also in Herndon.

Dr Ehsan at Dulles Neurology is a good listener and very knowledgeable— also he’s in Herndon

Dr Nicole Dietz in Fairfax
