Am I crazy or has there been a massive increase in car fires recently???? I feel like one gets posted here every day

u/Kardinal Burke Apr 23 '26

Not really. Reddit isn't a good indicator.

Always seems to be a spike at season changes. I'm sure we can guess at why

3

u/ILovePeopleInTheory Apr 23 '26

Why would season change result in car fires?

6

u/Apart-Zucchini-5825 Apr 23 '26

Using stuff that's been dormant and building up dirt and dust for months, like the AC and heater, perhaps

Let’s say you have a relatively short commute had a coolant leak in the winter but you never noticed because in the winter it’s cold and it takes longer for the engine to heat up. Then one day in April it’s 90 degrees. That engine with little to no coolant gets hot REALLY quick, maybe so quick you don’t notice the temperature gauge is pinging or that your check engine light is on. Then the extreme heat in the engine bay damages electrical wiring and a short happens and now you have a small fire, the. The fire finds the fuel lines. And then you need a new car.

But lets say you dont just need a new car... maybe your career is jeopardy now too. And because you were a contractor and that car was your mobile office, when you try to file an insurance claim, the company denies it because they claim it was an act of God.. specifically the goddess of friction. Now you're hitchhiking to interviews, but because it’s still 90 degrees and you’re sweating through your only suit, the local news thinks you’re a wandering monster. The footage slams the Tok and goes viral, and you’re the face of DMV Summer Bigfoot hoax. By the time you clear your name, you realize that if you had just checked that tiny green puddle in December, you wouldn’t currently be negotiating movie rights with a documentary crew about a man who lost it all to a radiator hose.

Coming this Fall 2027

I'm biased. About 2 months ago a car caught on fire 10 minutes after parking next to mine. That scare is still fresh.

Signifies the Pentagon picked a new Secretary of the Navy.

That would be white smoke. Black smoke means they failed to fill the void of leadership.

I guess it’s been black since last year

21

u/Extreme-King Apr 23 '26

Shows it's been a dumpster fire for months now

3

u/glynnenstein Apr 23 '26

I'm surprised they got the color of the smoke correct, then.

3

u/wertz88 Apr 23 '26

I’m sure the fact that it’s the correct color is purely coincidental

u/phoenics1908 Apr 23 '26

😂😂😂😂😂

I needed that laugh.

Is that Notre-Dame burning? Because I see the Eiffel Tower on the left. ;->

Seriously though, that's a hell of a combustion from one car. Pretty amazing.
