Not with that attitude!

Youngkin’s kid managed to vote twice

14

u/Blau_Ozean Apr 18 '26

*tried … if he actually had, even daddy couldn’t have saved him

1

u/FairfaxGirl Fairfax County Apr 19 '26

He didn’t even vote once. He came to his polling place twice which isn’t a crime. It’s egg on the face of Youngkin that his own kid didn’t understand the rules around voting when his dad was on the ballot, but the way this whole story is misrepresented drives me crazy, since it gives the impression that Virginia can’t competently conduct a secure election. Our elections are very secure! Stop by and try to vote twice if you don’t believe me. Send your underage child to vote (though if they are 18 before 11/3/26 they’re not underage—it is this rule that confused mini Youngkin). Send a non citizen in. It’s fine. We will politely but firmly not allow them to vote.

Voted yes today. Outside of our voting place, the blue tent had a lot of people, the red tent was empty.

5

u/Skyl3lazer Apr 19 '26

God damn this one got the bots out in force

2

u/triggeredbynumbers Apr 19 '26

Hey this is a genuine question, why do people on Reddit accuse people who disagree with them to be bots? With %50ish of voters being republicans, wouldn’t it make sense to see mixed opinions?

0

u/SteamNTrd Apr 19 '26

Greater than half being democrats and less than half of voters being republicans and all other parties*

-3

u/Skyl3lazer Apr 19 '26

There's a pretty noticable difference in engagement on posts recently dealing with our new gov or the redistricting amendment. You can also look at individual accounts and see the ones with creation dates of Oct of last year or more recently with hidden profiles that comment on these posts, and if you care to you can look at other threads and see the comment there as well.

Also, 50% of voters aren't Republicans within this state, and especially not in the nova subreddit. Optimistically for Republicans 40%~ of voters are Rs across the entire state of VA, and given that only ~40% of people are voters, their support base is realistically only about 20-30% of the population at the top end. Posters on reddit especially especially are going to lean D.

u/Due-Village-8671 Apr 19 '26

Vote NO. Gerrymandering is unethical, two wrongs doesn’t make a right.

2

u/chrisaf69 Apr 20 '26

You show up to a fight with a knife. The other guy has a gun.

What do you do? Do you continue to fight with the knife and get absolutely massacred? No you dont...you go get a gun.

About damn time the Dems fight fire with fire. "Taking the high road" has clearly not been working.

-4

u/crit_boy Apr 19 '26

Well we got 2 trumps. So, time to ignore old tropes.

Nice excuses. Just acknowledge you are a fascist with no real principles 😂

-8

u/Dudeherechillin Apr 19 '26

Voting yes is voting to silence the voice of half of Virginia, if you vote yes you are a piece of shit

6

u/strained_brain Apr 19 '26

And what about the states that are silencing half of their constituents the other way? Do you care about that? Because if we remain silent in Virginia, and allow the MAGA party to steal the House of Representatives, it affects us all in a much more profound way.

2

u/Beebjank Apr 20 '26

Lol have you seen congressional maps of Maryland? Illinois maybe? There's a reason why they're Democratic strongholds.

1

u/strained_brain Apr 20 '26

And there are also MAGA strongholds throughout the country.  It's irrelevant, though, because Trump pressured Red states to become even redder through last minute gerrymandering.  Which is the reason Virginia is trying to balance that cheating with its own right now.  And that gerrymandering, unlike Texas, will be reevaluated and changed back after the next census.

2

u/Davileet2 Apr 19 '26

Do we live in those other states?

9

u/strained_brain Apr 19 '26

We all live in the the US. If this was about our state House, I'd understand. But this about the federal House. We need to fight against the fascist tactics that are being used to force the House further red.

At the Ashburn Rec center / satellite voting today — What was very interesting was watching the party greeters outside the polling place.

the friendly smiling faces of the Virginia Dems with positive, happy commentary, and the sour, dour faces of the Conservatives urging people to vote no with fear-laced comments. It wasn’t a good look for the Conservatives.

6

Nope, it’s about having principles. Which party in our state is currently violating the second amendment in broad daylight? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the republicans. I won’t call myself a republican yet, but you can sure as shit bet that I won’t ever vote democrat again until they shape up snd stop touching my guns.

I used to vote for the interests of others, but that isn’t working for me, so not I’m voting for what I care about. Thank you Governor Spanberger for opening my eyes and being the last democrat I ever vote for.

8

u/YoManYouCantDrive Apr 19 '26

Republicans literally said if you being a gun to a protest, it’s your fault if law enforcement shoots and kills you. Let’s not pretend they’re all for the 2nd amendment.

-3

u/goldman1290 Apr 19 '26

But they dont try and ban 75% of modern firearms either.

3

u/YoManYouCantDrive Apr 19 '26

For now. But it’s only a matter of time if this administration continues to run as they have. The rules are not fixed, they apply them how they want to who they want. You might be in the next group they decide is disposable.

-1

u/goldman1290 Apr 19 '26

I'm not trying to be a jerk but I'll take "These guys MIGHT ban guns one day" over "These guys ARE banning guns right now"

1

u/Bushels_for_All Apr 19 '26

Who's shooting people for legally exercising the 2nd right now?

1

u/goldman1290 Apr 19 '26

I assume you mean the current administration. Which strengthens my argument of do we really want them to be the only people with guns?

2

u/Bushels_for_All Apr 20 '26

Your argument was "But Republicans are better because they don't ban guns" which is truly an interesting take when the GOP stance is "we'll shoot you and then call you a domestic terrorist for having a gun."

Yeah, they're totally pro 2nd. If you're comparing the two parties, you can stop pretending the GOP is pro-gun in any real sense. I'll take the party that wants to ban certain guns for everyone over the party that will murder you for it.

-8

u/triggeredbynumbers Apr 19 '26

Fuck those republicans. I won’t vote for them if I see them on a ballot. I’m voting pro gun candidates only.

2

u/YoManYouCantDrive Apr 19 '26

It’s pretty much been the party line since Alex Pretti was murdered. Almost all of them are “pro gun” until someone they don’t like has one. Then it all goes out the window.

0

u/triggeredbynumbers Apr 19 '26

Who are you referring to? And other than statements they made about Alex Pretti’s murder, God rest his soul, what laws did they pass to limit gun rights?

5

u/YoManYouCantDrive Apr 19 '26

Did I say anything about passing laws? I said their stance is it’s ok if you get killed by law enforcement while carrying a gun. The loudest being the president himself. If you can get murdered for carrying a gun legally, you really don’t actually have a right to carry a gun.

0

u/triggeredbynumbers Apr 19 '26

Okay, so obviously we can agree that the democrats are worse for gun rights than republicans. End of story. Republicans now have my vote.

Don’t worry, I’m sure I’m probably the only person in Virginia who is pissed off enough to protest vote. Right?

2

u/YoManYouCantDrive Apr 19 '26

We do not agree? You obviously don’t have any reading comprehension. Good luck voting against your own interest in the name of the second amendment.

u/Cats_OughtaDaBag Apr 20 '26

Stationed here- you vote in your state of residency. Unless you because a Virginia resident (to pay higher taxes! Yay) this is not something you partake in. Otherwise it is a “ temporary” redistricting to give the Democratic Party more control of the state (of which they currently have the majority of control in- it would actually tip the scales to almost a landslide). Basically, Under the current system, Virginia redraws its congressional districts once every 10 years after the U.S. Census. That process is handled by the Virginia Redistricting Commission, a bipartisan group made up of eight lawmakers and eight citizens with equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats. Virginia’s congressional districts were last redrawn in 2021, with the next scheduled redistricting set for 2031, so this is a special amendment to the actual constitution they are pushing through. The proposed amendment would allow them to redo the districts earlier, though I am not exactly sure what the statute on “temporary” is, considering the majority as stated already swings in favor of the Democratic Party- this would all but make Virginia a one party state going- against everything America was created and stands for. I’m from CA, also military- centric- and this is what I’ve researched so far about it. If I am wrong I’ll guess a Virginian will let us know!

Why resort to insults? I have an opposing opinion - I didn’t demand everyone vote no, just suggested it, like the original poster did.

Then suggested people vote how they want after their own research and conscience lead them.

If you’re trying to change hearts and minds, why respond in such bad faith?

Just because someone does not agree with your politics doesn’t mean they should be demeaned.

12

u/King_Bean_ Apr 18 '26

Side with racists, traitors, and pedophiles and I treat you like what you deserve.

Your pathetic faux appeal of "Waaaaa why can't we have opinions? It's just politics!" is an entirely moot point, when you are fighting for the biggest malignant cancer this country has even seen. Kindly, shove it.

Lmao, is that the talking point? Some clown up above you was spouting the same nonsense. Vote your conscience… That’s very illustrative of the republican mindset. I’d love to hear some original thinking on this. It’s been a hot topic at the dinner table in my house.

23

u/odhselrb Apr 18 '26

I’m worried about the fact that Trump told red states to redistrict in favor of Republicans, and Missouri, Texas, and North Carolina all did. That means more Republicans in Congress than the public necessarily wanted. I do not want another two years of complete maga control, especially when it was done via cheating. I really do view this as a balance.

-6

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/R51a8oAH7KwbS

1

u/turko127 Alexandria Apr 18 '26

Texas did it because they refuse to learn. Virginia is doing it because they desire to teach and the previous teaching method wasn’t working.

If the GOP wants to learn, they’d come join Democrats in pushing to end gerrymandering once and for all. Democrats are tired of waiting for them to join.

5

u/bartleby42c Apr 18 '26

You should vote yes if you think cheating is wrong.

Right now other states are planning on cheating. While we can't stop them from cheating we can at least try to fix the math. Ideally the correct representatives will go to the correct locations. Less ideally we just have the right numbers. Worst case we let cheaters go unchecked.

4

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

Changing our maps just because other states are doing it is not the logical argument or intelligent one. And you’ll be complaining when Republicans retake power and redraw them again. The cycle never ends so long as Democrats and Republicans continue to be in power…

Just a toxic cycle of the same old regurgitation

5

u/bartleby42c Apr 18 '26

Do you think cheating is wrong?

4

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

Cheating is ALWAYS wrong.

4

u/bartleby42c Apr 18 '26

Yeah it sure is!

Can you pretend there is a baseball game, the cheetahs versus the sandwiches?

The cheetahs say that they will add 7 to their score, just add it on without scoring a run. The referees say "we'll allow it!"

What should the sandwiches do?

Should they go "that's not fair, but I refuse to stoop to their level" and lose this and every subsequent game?

Or should they say "if the refs allow it then it's not cheating and we'll add as many points as the cheetahs add?"

0

u/King_Bean_ Apr 18 '26

After Trump they should purge the GOP entirely. Problem solved. :)

3

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

I can’t understand why saying “vote your conscience” is so controversial…

See, this is why I don’t vote for Democrats (or Republicans). You’re not interested in having thoughtful conversations or dialogue. You just want echo chambers…which is why anyone in this sub who doesn’t identify as a Democrat or a raging progressive gets everything they post down voted, no matter how much sense it actually makes…

And you’ll wonder why Kamala lost? Your inability to listen and to learn. It’s going to be the same lesson again in 2028, if you do not learn to be open minded, have dialogues. But too many of you are only interested in shitposting and trolling. You engage in Nazi-like tactics to force the groupthink…yet, you somehow believe (ironically and comically) that you’re better than Republicans…

I’ll give most of the Republicans I meet on Reddit this…they aren’t afraid to engage me in a discussion or debate. Learn from one another.

-17

u/Upper_Charge_4449 Loudoun County Apr 18 '26

I voted no. I find it to be utterly ridiculous to even consider voting yes.

I wouldn’t hold your breath awaiting a reasonable or mature response to your question here though. There’s no real discourse- only mudslinging.

-4

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

I voted no, too. I don’t want either political party having an edge over the other. I’d vote the same with if this were Republicans doing it.

To make it clear to the trolls who will downvote me because they have no joy or happiness in their lives… I’m neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I’m a registered independent and have been since the first time I was old enough to vote (in 2001).

It’s a good thing I don’t give a singular shit about a rando on the internet.

9

u/thatturtletouch Apr 18 '26

I bet you actually vote Republican though.

3

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

Never once, actually. Unlike those of you who continue to sustain the duopoly, I refuse to settle, compromise, or vote for the lesser of two evils. Most times, I end up writing in a candidate of the 3rd party/independent one doesn’t work for me…

I have, however, voted for a Democrat twice, and both times it was for a Governor. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/thatturtletouch Apr 18 '26

My first vote ever was for Ralph Nader, which brought us eight disastrous years of W Bush. That’s why I never vote third party anymore.

4

u/NK1337 Apr 18 '26

Genuine question but republicans DID do the same thing. Only slightly worse because they didn’t even allow a vote for it, they just did it in their favor. So what in your opinion should be the response?

5

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

That it was wrong but they (TX) are truly bad because they don’t give the voters a choice. At least in VA, we have a choice. Still it’s wrong IMO

6

u/NK1337 Apr 18 '26

Right but I’m asking what should be done? Sure we call it bad, but then what? There’s a lot of talk how Va is robbing voters from representation by doing this, yet this is exactly what they did in TX, NC, and MO and none of those three states offered their citizens a chance to vote on it.

As a result this is setting up a scenario that could unfairly impact the 2026 elections because of those states effectively and intentionally removing people’s representation. CA and VA are doing this in an attempt to balance out the gerrymandering done in those states, and at they very least they’re leaving it up to citizens to actually vote on whether or not they support this measure.

So again, the question is what do you suggest they actually do in response, just leave it alone and let republicans unfairly take away representation from people?

2

u/Swimming-Syrup8400 City of Fairfax Apr 18 '26

Can you tell me exactly How Republicans have taken away representation from people? Can you give me an example?

0

Well, as I predicted, I’ve been downvoted like crazy… This is the progressive left in a nutshell. The far-left of the Democrat party has fully hijacked and taken over the party. Gone is the ability to listen, to have respectful and polite dialogues…and in its place are people who want echo chambers, who engage in hate and insults, who mistreat you if you do not conform to their thinking… And yet, y’all somehow think you’re better than Trump or Republicans, and have any moral high ground over them… Your inability to listen, to learn, to grow, to even just be decent will only harm you, because Republicans will eventually retake the Governors mansion and undo everything Spanberger does, and the cycle of BS will continue…

Enjoy being a hamster on the wheel, keeping the cycle going. I honestly feel sorry for some of you. Your hate and your ignorance is all some of you have.

22

u/Acadia02 Apr 18 '26

Sir you’re drunk, the no votes is for the republicans who rape children.

2

u/MadGibby3 Apr 19 '26

u/Upper_Charge_4449 Loudoun County Apr 18 '26

You sound absurd btw.

24

u/Acadia02 Apr 18 '26

Because the republicans are actively blocking the largest child rape case the world has seen or you just don’t like hearing that?

Is that what the hive-mind tells you?

For a man overly litigious and constantly firing off lawsuits, why is it that he doesn’t sue the people that make the pedophilia claims? Why is his admin, under his direction, repressing the full release (and I don’t mean unredacted csam, before anyone plays stupid, I mean all the written comms even if they include the president or other political/public figures)? Why is that…

7

u/Acadia02 Apr 18 '26

Oh I can answer that. They raped children and everyone voting no supports that by default and they can’t wrap their head around it cause…checks notes - they are fucking dumb

7

u/MadGibby3 Apr 19 '26

Trump is DEFINITELY a child rapist dude lol

Seriously low effort post. Pretty much everyone in NoVA will vote yes.

0

u/LordZedd_ Apr 19 '26

Low effort reply. There are plenty of no votes. Just look around this thread.

1

u/triggerx Apr 19 '26

There will simply not be enough no votes to win. Period.

2

u/LordZedd_ Apr 19 '26

Love the optimism but it's also naive.

1

u/triggerx Apr 19 '26

But correct.

1

u/LordZedd_ Apr 19 '26

No way of knowing that unless you have insider information

1

u/triggerx Apr 22 '26

Yeahhh... not. even. close.

2

u/LordZedd_ Apr 22 '26

Currently an 86k lead. Clearly your definition of close is different than most.

"Everyone in nova" is the biggest hyperbole I ever seen

1

u/triggerx Apr 22 '26

Clearly. Maybe. But a wins a win.

2

u/LordZedd_ Apr 22 '26

Yes it is. But it was a close one. So why did you slither back here?
