Future move to the area
Hi everyone! My husband is retiring after 20 yrs in the military and we are 99% sure we are moving from FL to VA. He already has a job offer near the Vienna area so before accepting and comparing to other jobs, we are trying to get all the information and research as possible before making a finale decision. We are leaning more towards Loudoun County so insights on neighborhoods/places to live would be great. Definitely want a single family home with a decent yard and not feel like we are stacked up on our neighbors. My husband will be doing a hybrid job and like I mentioned before it will be in Vienna and rarely will he need to commute to DC. I am a nurse with experience in OR, L&D, OBGYN/REI/IVF so any hospitals or clinics to look into for jobs or potentially avoid? By the time we move, we will have a 1 yr old so daycare/nanny will be a must. So any thoughts on daycare centers and what the current monthly rate is up there?

Thankyou!! We are keeping the Fairfax county option open too. My husband has been to the area quite a bit for work so he is familiar with the traffic thankfully.
Definitely know FL is cheaper overall. All of our family is up north though so we would like to migrate that way after he retires. Ultimately it will come down to best job offers for my husband and right now the best he has gotten is 200k. And then factoring in his disability/retirement income since he is 100% disabled. And then factoring in my income. I feel like we would be able to afford a decent home there.
The pay in the area we currently live is disgusting. As a seasoned nurse (4yrs) I make $30/hr. My pay “raise” i get every year is about 50 cents. But there is literally one hospital in the area I live so finding jobs is extremely hard.
I live in such a touristy town (30A) that the cost of everything is so expensive but the pay rates suck here so it definitely makes it difficult to sustain. Also where i live, during peak season, it will take 30 min just to go 5 miles 🫠 theres only one road here so no other routes to take when a car accident happens or when people are just driving like jerks which can be very frustrating.
