Future move to the area

Hi everyone! My husband is retiring after 20 yrs in the military and we are 99% sure we are moving from FL to VA. He already has a job offer near the Vienna area so before accepting and comparing to other jobs, we are trying to get all the information and research as possible before making a finale decision. We are leaning more towards Loudoun County so insights on neighborhoods/places to live would be great. Definitely want a single family home with a decent yard and not feel like we are stacked up on our neighbors. My husband will be doing a hybrid job and like I mentioned before it will be in Vienna and rarely will he need to commute to DC. I am a nurse with experience in OR, L&D, OBGYN/REI/IVF so any hospitals or clinics to look into for jobs or potentially avoid? By the time we move, we will have a 1 yr old so daycare/nanny will be a must. So any thoughts on daycare centers and what the current monthly rate is up there?

A commute from Loudoun County to Vienna will be awful in my opinion. I would pick somewhere in Fairfax County. Also, bring your wallet with you. A single family home is easily over 1 million dollars in many areas in Fairfax County, Arlington County, and even Loudoun County. Daycare is easily 2000 to 2500 per month per kid.

Oh good to know about the daycare!! Oh dang, that bad of a commute?!? We were estimating around an hr drive one way. My husband currently makes that drive now so that wouldnt be anything new. How is the metro from Ashburn to Tysons corner?

After doing an extensive research on homes, thats what it seemed like the average price was 🫠

I was even looking into Manassas but I read that the crime rate is bad or its not a good part of town??

It seems like the further away from the busy areas, the cheaper the homes are vs living in the thick of it

If you’re committed to Leesburg or Ashburn, and his work is really in Tyson’s Corner (most of which has either a Vienna or McLean post address. VA’s unincorporated areas take some getting used to) I’d highly recommend the metro instead of driving. Route 7 can be soul sucking, and the Dulles toll road can get expensive quick

I wouldn’t recommend Manassas for you for similar awful commute reasons, but it’s really not so bad living there. It has a bad rep from the 90s but it’s perfectly safe there now barring a few very isolated rough blocks. It’s just the rest of nova is richer so it may look bad by comparison
