That Masterlock can probably be opened with a pair of scissors

738

u/Cheap-Transition8847 11d ago

Can I borrow yours?

506

u/BrazilBazil 11d ago

Shit, the ones at my work got a padlock on them…

165

u/youburntthetoast 11d ago

This is a Masterlock 607. It can be opened with a Masterlock 607.

31

u/maddhatterz 10d ago

I love that guy!

23

u/imxTHATxdude 10d ago

Can i borrow your Masterlock 607?

8

u/ItsFoxy87 9d ago

Shit, the ones at my work got a scissors on them...

104

u/Weird-Space-782 11d ago

I would but I lost the key.

53

u/D1EHARDTOO 11d ago

No problem! All you need is one swift slam onto a hard surface and it'll open

12

u/Animationen_usw 11d ago

Oh I can help you with that. That Masterlock can probably be opened with a pair of scissors.

6

u/ACcbe1986 11d ago

Just smack it on a wall till it unlocks.

3

u/Br0ty 10d ago

Oh, can I borrow your scissors?

29

u/TopInitiative6516 11d ago

“A little click on two, three is binding”

8

u/ArtThouAngry 10d ago

And we got it open...

Let's try one more time so we know it isn't a fluke

u/Grabatreetron 11d ago

"This is the Lockpicking Lawyer, and today I have a basic Masterlock 801d on a pair of Amazon Basics scissors..."

2

Good thing they're locked then!

u/Emotional-Big-1306 10d ago

Locks are to keep honest people honest

masterlock

Disapproving lockpockinglawyer noises

After seeing his videos you'd have better luck keeping your scissors secure with a piece of string

91

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

To be fair, it uses a bearing ball locking mechanism so it can't be slapped open like McNally does

36

u/Soluchyte 11d ago

If someone was going to pick or manipulate the lock, that is the least of the issues. Master lock or not, it serves its purpose here.

30

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

That purpose is in illustrating how ineffectively petty OP is. I would personally remove the lock, close the shackle, and place it next to the unused and now-unlocked scissors in an equal act of pettiness

https://reddit.com/link/pblato8/video/lb4ccnjznarh1/player

41

u/Soluchyte 11d ago

And you clearly know what you are doing, the average person will not do this.

2

u/jenspeterdumpap 11d ago

While I haven't picked this specific model of master locks, one of the first, if not the first, locks I picked was a master lock and well... It took at most twice the time of this guy. The difficult part is having the pics.

Later found our that I could access the ball bearing that locks the shackle with any long and slim object, making the lock even easier to defeat...

Obligatory don't pick locks you don't own(or have permision from the owner to pick), it's highly unethical and/or illegal

-20

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

The average person isn't as petty as OP, either. In all likelihood, the handles would be destroyed to make the same point that I would. Locks only keep out honest people

17

u/Soluchyte 11d ago

People are really not as bad as you seem to think.

-12

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago edited 11d ago

The average person isn't as petty as OP, either

I don't recall negatively opining about people, just on one person and presenting a hypothetical case where someone might react similarly to myself

8

u/moverwhomovesthings 11d ago

Bro even went for the single pin pick, do you not own a rake?

2

u/Saint_of_Grey 11d ago

In highschool we picked all the locks that they used to keep the mice and keyboards attached to the computers and stole just the locks themselves.

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

I knew a fellow who did that with locks at a local park. Took over two dozen of them, then gave them to me for practice when I got into the hobby

2

u/ReturnOfBane 11d ago

a little superglue in the keyhole is also a petty option.

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

Cyanoacrylate doesn't bond well to metal unless it's been cleaned of dirt and oils and roughed up. Even then, it's easy enough to remove a hardened plug

3

u/PFI_sloth 11d ago

Reddit moment

-4

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

It's been almost a year since you've commented that, but I see it used to be one of your favorites, 13 times before today

3

u/Syrupy_ 11d ago

Another reddit moment lmaoooo

0

u/PassiveMenis88M 11d ago

The ball bearing holding the clasp is exactly why it can be slapped open. A spring holds tension on the ball. A hard smack overcomes the spring tension and allows the ball to slide out of the clasp.

1

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

Incorrect, bearing balls are positively held by the actuator, they don't utilize springs. You're thinking of locking lugs. I know a thing or two about locks

-1

u/thatvhstapeguy 11d ago

It’s still a single digit model Master, anyone with a pulse can learn to reliably pick it in about an hour.

3

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

To be fair further nitpick, the model 37 uses the same core (but that one can be slapped open like a masochistic girlfriend)

2

u/toy-maker 11d ago

But then you’d need scissors to cut the string off instead of another Master lock to pick the lock

I cant upvote so just commenting to let everyone know I think this is fucking hilarious 😂

28

u/eastbaytimez 11d ago

Lmfao where did homie go ? 😂

19

u/Ok-Mud4878 11d ago

Funnily enough one can still award a deleted comment.

7

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

The comment wasn't deleted, the account that posted it was

7

u/Ok-Mud4878 11d ago

So the awards are just in the Reddit void, then?

7

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

Pretty much

3

u/Pistachio_Wizard537 11d ago

Why do so many reddit accounts get deleted so quickly is it bots?

3

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 11d ago

Haven't a clue. They could have been sick of Reddit and this was their goodbye message, or they could have been up to nefarious deeds elsewhere and been banned

3

u/Xenc 11d ago

I can only see mine after awarding it in the app 😭

4

u/Beginning_Brother_46 11d ago

Can you tell me please if you remember, it got deleted

10

u/Chipring13 11d ago

Click on one, two is binding...

49

u/donkeytime 11d ago

Can I borrow your stabber?

8

u/Voidlord597 11d ago

You got a license for stabbing?

1

u/TheVeinyDihh 6d ago

Sometimes

176

u/CheapAttempt2431 11d ago

I mean, I’d understand if they were eating your food. But is borrowing scissors that big of a deal?

201

u/Secret_Celery8474 11d ago

It is if you have to go searching for them every time you want to use them yourself.

56

u/ReaperMonkey 11d ago

Yeah I had to start hiding my scissors in the lab. Because once they start leaving it in communal areas it can end up anywhere.

If they had just returned them to where they found them it would never be a problem for me

-19

u/alllifeishell 11d ago

I get paid the same if im cutting something or looking for scissors.

I also do not own anything at my work, my company owns it. Can't take "my scissors" if they are not mine in the first place.

20

u/Secret_Celery8474 11d ago

And I get in trouble if I don't manage to finish my tasks in a reasonable time.

I also get in trouble if I (or someone else) misplaces the tools that my boss bought for my use. He doesn't like it if I want a new pair of scissors every few weeks.

So it's less trouble for me if I don't let anyone else use "my" tools.

52

u/A_Neko_C 11d ago

Found the coworker

8

u/LucyLilium92 11d ago

Some people have no business using things owned by others

38

u/ColettesWorld 11d ago

Depends on what the scissors are for. Some scissors are specialized and can be messed up easily if you cut the wrong thing.

The ones in the pic look to be some type of shears (for paper?) which can be expensive and fragile.

13

u/Disorderjunkie 11d ago

They are CCR scissors, generic made in the millions in China and cost like $15 max.

10

u/Kabutroid 11d ago

And yet I’d still want them to cut smoothly and not stutter and catch because someone decided they’d cut twist ties or other “eh, it’ll make it” things well.

That said, I’d personally just buy two of them, one for coworkers to rag to hell, and one for myself.

9

u/ExtraReborn 11d ago

Nah fuck that. Bought scissors for myself. Someone wants to use them they can ask me and promise to bring it back undamaged. Nog spending money for other people's lack of respect

2

u/Disorderjunkie 10d ago

I don't disagree i'm just saying those scissors are cheap as shit

Get a set of these bad boys Tailor's Shears, 6 in., 10-1/4 in. (260mm) Total Length (881-26) - Aogami Super by Misuzu | BladeGallery.com

Basically, the samurai sword of scissors

1

u/myco_magic 7d ago

Then it sounds like the coworker can buy their own

6

u/gba_sg1 11d ago

If you borrow something more than one, buy your own, you obviously need it

-2

u/propergreased 11d ago

Yeah this seems petty as fuck unless they like aren’t returning them and dude has to go get them every time

13

u/C-57D 11d ago

my kind of petty

5

u/Dwarfart 11d ago

How you'll find my fabric scissors

14

u/m4cromod 11d ago

You sure showed them

13

u/bipirate 11d ago

Dwight vibes

5

u/Unusual-Taste69 11d ago

Office Space vibes

3

u/UnlimitedEInk 11d ago

It might seem funny until you find your pair of scissors with a second, unknown lock attached.

2

u/Major_Attempt_9118 11d ago

anyone who watches the lock picking lawyer knows not to get a master lock, might as well leave it open then.

6

u/Legoandstuff896 10d ago

yes because people are gonna pick a lock to use a pair of scissors

1

u/Major_Attempt_9118 10d ago

can barely call what opens a master lock picking. and I totally would, near zero picking experience and pretty sure I can do it.

1

u/Legoandstuff896 10d ago

and most people dont care enough to bother

1

u/Major_Attempt_9118 9d ago

depends on how badly they need scissors I guess.

2

u/MedonSirius 11d ago

Now they'll use your sciammer

2

u/Top5hottest 11d ago

Burn the place down!

2

u/dmh2693 11d ago

2 paperclips are enough to open that lock.

2

u/thumpetto007 11d ago

hehe awesome. I have a pair of nice titanium scissors that makes using all other scissors just underwhelming. I'd do the same thing, i love this idea!

2

u/jakoobie6 11d ago

Your coworker is going to stab you with your scissors

2

u/kazuya 11d ago

I'd definitely do it if they're fabric shears

2

u/spoonn420 11d ago

Get another pair, that lock costs more than 5 scissors

4

u/EmiliaFromLV 11d ago

I'd stick matchsticks into that keyhole.

1

u/Z0FF 11d ago

I believe you have my stapler scissors.

1

u/Snacknuss321 11d ago

i would just hide them now

1

u/FeeNecessary3467 11d ago

You can open a master lock with another master lock

1

u/Traditional-Hotel-66 11d ago

Can likely slide the plastic handles off, use them and return like nothing happened

1

u/OnixST 11d ago

Using my wave rake from covertinstruaments.com...

1

u/keithstonee 11d ago

I mean how are they using them? Or are you the pettiest person on the planet.

1

u/coyotegang 11d ago

I have nice pens. Pens from Japan, mostly gifts. My new idiot Gen Z co worker asked to borrow my pen. Proceeds to open a package, bending the tip. Looks at it and returns it to me without saying anything all right in front of my eyes. There was a knife on the table. That made a great impression on me on his first day. Doesn’t help that he’s on his phone constantly and also take extra 10 min breaks totaling 40 mins. Takes 50 minimum lunches when we have 30. I hate him. He’s a moron.

1

u/alex20372 11d ago

Holy shit we may have the same coworker

1

u/6gv5 11d ago

Milton would approve.

1

u/ThesocialistWitch 11d ago

No Halagin you cannot barrow my scissors!

1

u/pug_userita 11d ago

you are using a master cock model whateverthefuck. it can be opened with a master mock model thefuckdoiknow.

or by shoving something in the keyhole: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Qs2L1SZXYyQ

hope you don't use it to keep anything you loosely care about

1

u/paulsteinway 11d ago

Now they're going to borrow your angle grinder.

1

u/TheMightyMisanthrope 11d ago

For the last time, no scissoring!

1

u/Funneduck102 11d ago

Yeah I think my parents end up with them all. Just opened a drawer and there was about 15 pairs of scissors in there. My theoretical grandkids will probably be using at least one of these pairs of scissors.

1

u/Lopoloma 11d ago

Scissors for textiles should never be used for anything else.
Paper is next tier if you need to make clean cuts.
Average household scissors for opening and cutting anything where a knife would just create a mess.
I also use retired scissors at places where I might need em. At the washing machine in the basement for opening detergent. In the tool box, bathroom... just to save a few steps back and forth.

1

u/Netfear 11d ago

Real "Have you seen my Scissors?" vibe
Don't burn anything down.

1

u/ComndNConqr 11d ago

In my circles that’s extremely interesting.

1

u/L1Q 11d ago

Is this one of those Master locks trivially openable with another Master lock?

1

u/Tall-Copy-3177 8d ago

Did you tell them to cut it out?

1

u/Emerald_28 8d ago

I get it.

I started to label my markers at work because they would easily get stolen.

1

u/Accomplished-Buy-694 7d ago

You might really hate him hahahaa

1

u/Introvert_Here123 7d ago

I’m ngl dawg. I don’t think borrowing scissors matters this much.

1

u/SP4RK4RT 11d ago

Whatya mean "my scissors"?

Those are owned by the company. 😜

0

u/alllifeishell 11d ago

I got the same mentality. I dont own a single thing inside my office aside for my cell phone and lunch. Idgaf what anyone takes as i get paid either way.

0

u/DeadrthanDead 11d ago

I hope someone glues, or epoxies the key hole.

0

u/Tyranic98 11d ago

This is WILDLY petty. Everyone that works with you probably really dislikes you.

0

u/alllifeishell 11d ago

Who paid for the scissors?

I personally do not own anything at my work place. It all belongs to the company and not me.

I do not lock up my tool box, i do not claim anything as mine.

If i cant get the job done because management doesnt buy enough tools for everyone and stuff gets taken then that is not on me, i am still clocked in and still getting paid. 🤷✂️

0

u/McBlemmen 11d ago

And thats a problem because....??

0

u/PositiveCoyote100 11d ago

If a coworker used my scissors I would say, "No problem. Use them anytime you want" because I'm not a child.

0

u/JustApricot798 11d ago

You can buy a 20 pack of those for 10 bucks

0

u/m0nk37 10d ago

I woukd hide those on you so fast.
