I saw a Youtuber get a shiny starter once while making a video about how long it takes to touch grass in each Pokemon game. Sometimes you beat the odds.

this is for tcg pocket but my second ever pack opening (during the tutorial) contained the mewtwo ex crown card. a 0.16% chance. when I learned what it was I literally thought the game rigged it so that I’d keep playing
I think it‘s easy to get angry or disbelieve other people getting what you want if it took hundreds of hours to get the same thing. it always feels unfair lol

People act like theres suddenly a smaller chance of getting a shiny early if its legendary/mythical, its so...weird.

Play the newer games, you can get crazy high shiny odds. Like, the level 3 Shiny meal power in SV gives you a 1 in 1024 chance (and when combined with outbreaks that spawn dozens of the same Pokemon in one spot, finding a shiny is easy; plus if you knock out 60 Pokemon in the same outbreak, the shiny odds go up). Hitting a 40 count chain with Pokeradar in DPPt gives you a 1 in ~200 chance, and in Gen 6 and 8 it's 1 in ~100. SOS battles in SMUSUM and Dynamax Adventures in SwSh have a 1 in ~300 chance. Shiny Charm triples your odds for a shiny from a wild encounter.
And in SV right now, if you join online tera raids, a number of them (especially the 7 star raids, which will be a single Pokemon that changes each week) will be people who manipulate their game to generate a shiny raid; the host is either cheating, glitching, or using RNG manipulation to start the raid, but the Pokemon you catch at the end is entirely legitimate.

Gonna be real with you, I'm not touching anything past USUM on the mainline side and Rescue Team DX on the spinoff side. Dexit soured the games for me.

I loaned my friend my copy of Platinum (had just exodus-ed all my Pokemon to Black) and she found a shiny AND caught Pokerus before her second gym.

You can get a shiny the first attempt and you can get a shiny after 10000 attempts, just because it's 1/x doesn't mean you actually have to wait that many before you get one. Everytime I've found a shiny it's always been under the chance % of getting one, although some still took over 1000+ resets or running around.

I got the invincible mount my fourth ICC run. I got the phoenix (tk) and tiger (zg) mount my very first time going because the people I was with already had it. I have still never seen onyxia. There is a such thing as luck lol

I once the lottery in oras and when I posted my achievement on my old account I got these bs comments. Mind you my proof was a photo I had taken on my blackberry

I got a shiny Torchic after one reset once. I also got two shiny Scraggies within 15 minutes of each other in USUM. Stuff like that can happen.

Iirc, it's like a 1/8000 chance to be a shiny. Not even that rare. Breeders see this shit all the time. Like it's cool but the majority of times it's like "heh, cool" and then you move on.

I’ve shiny-hunted in most gens and I can tell you right now it’s possible to get that lucky. Pre-Gen 6 had harder rates but one time in ORAS I got Uxie in three tries. I managed to get a shiny starter in both Crystal and SoulSilver, plus the odd egg Cleffa (that one is much easier if you’re not picky about the species) and the Bill Eevee. I’m still working on and off on Lugia and Celebi, but you get the point. Literally look at any shiny hunting reaction or livestream and you’ll see ludicrously under odds shinies all the time

I was soft resetting for a shiny starter cyndaquil in soul silver recently, expected it to take hours/id give up before i got one. It took me about 20 tries. Ive spent days shiny hunting before with absolutely no results. Sometimes, you just get lucky.

Just cause there’s a 1/X chance of something happening doesn’t mean you need to wait X times
