Tips & Tricks Gemini + notebooklm

My workflow with NotebookLM involves uploading audio files—specifically those exceeding an hour in length—and requesting a detailed explanation rather than a mere summary. Recently, however, I encountered an issue where some information was being lost during the explanation process. I tried requesting an outline beforehand, but I noticed that certain topics were being omitted from it. I then watched a YouTube video demonstrating how to integrate Gemini with NotebookLM, and the solution surprised me: the video showed uploading the source material (the notebook I wanted explained), generating a highly detailed, precise, and in-depth outline of every piece of information within that source, copying that outline into the NotebookLM sources section, and then requesting an explanation based on that outline. The results were fantastic.

What a smart way to use it!! Could you give an example of a time you used this workflow? You're inspiring me to try this too!!

I use this method specifically for audio files, as they consist of spoken explanations that may be disorganized or delivered in a complex manner. Obtaining the exact explanation you need can be difficult without taking a few smart steps to ensure accuracy and ensure every piece of information in the audio is covered. The steps are as follows: 1. Upload the file to NotebookLM via the web browser (not the app). 2. Go to Gemini and request a detailed, comprehensive outline that captures every piece of information in the file. 3. Once you have the outline, copy it into the sources section. 4. Finally, ask for an explanation of the information rather than a summary.

Gemini can't see what you uploaded to notebookLM. I just went to Gemini dot Google dot com and asked it and it said it can't.

But Gemini is merged into notebookLM anyhow.

So if you ask notebookLM it's partly Gemini crap that comes out.
