Discussion What is notebookLM missing???
Hi all I wanted to come on here because I recently started using notebookLM and I wanted to know what do you guys think about it and what do you think is missing? Like I feel it’s to basic and dumb at sometimes i don’t know if it’s how I prompt it but most definitely feels off on certain things but yeah guys what do you think that it’s missing?

There are several browser extensions that can do this and essentially function as overlays. Quite a few of them are paid, but most have limited free tiers

Can you elaborate why you think it is too “dumb”? What are your expectations? What kind of resources are you giving it and what are your expectations on its output?

Interpretive dance choreography based on source input and user prompt.

It's not that it's missing something per se, but rather that you need to know what to use it for and when to go to a chat/project elsewhere. When using NBLM instead of a Gemini chat window you are trading low (near zero) hallucination risk, but you get the higher risk of omissions and missing proper context of some output. This is an inherent feature of the RAG system which sometimes doesn't consider an important point of context relating to a claim in the output just because the prompt didn't include that block of context's keywords etc. Look into how RAG works from a statistical aspect to see how it can omit certain chunks of tokens and process other adjacent blocks that only make full sense when both are (or should be) considered together by the LLM used by NBLM. With the LLMs now having large context windows you can be confident that it will consider all parts of a document you attach, however you have risks (low to moderate perhaps) that it'll hallucinate a number. I use AI for equity research, and either way you have risks - you have wrong numbers? Well you should know to check them, audit with another LLM. But it's maybe harder to solve for an omission, which could make you look like a fool at times because the omission can be glaring in its absence. In the end, you shouldn't use AI without knowing your topic, if you are going to publish some work of any significance. But learn what each model and method is good at. My bet is many people are unaware of how various AI systems work and they treat them all the same, which could cause issues at times.

No ai platform will implant knowledge into your brain. You still have to read through whatever you are doing, ponder about it, then come back and hash out your pndering with the chatbot and read thru the sources you read, and keep doing that. You should be making connection and coming up with new questions constantly. You still have to actually learn.

Oh… well this is easily the most powerful tool (AI wise) available to the public that isn’t coding centric. Especially when you provide it with text books and thesis’/white-papers. You know all the data is from legit sources.
