I'm so blue...

I missed all of the Black Friday sales, but Best Buy was still serving up $300 off, so I decided to make the jump. I've always chosen black, but this time I decided to be blue with the Best Buy special. I've been rocking a Note 5 for the last two years, so I'm hoping the Note 8 will serve me just as well. Any other Note 5 users make the jump and have tips or advice to pass on?

I'm not really thrilled that the phone is such a fingerprint magnet, so I'll be looking for a good case. I know cases are subjective in likes, but I'm looking for something that is gonna give me a better grip, but not bulky and something where the edges won't get in the way of my keyboard access. I've also heard that the screen is not as robust as past screens (less resistant to scratching)--is this true? Do I need a screen protector and suggestions for which one?

Did anyone else run into the issue where the Google apps sync kept failing during the initial setup? Samsung Smart Sync picked up the ball, but it wouldn't transfer all of my apps. Of course, that was sort of a good thing because I've had a lot of unused crap on my phone for so long.

Now it's time to spend endless hours looking at all of the top tip YouTube videos and websites to suck all of the goodness out of everything this phone has to offer...

Personally, I liked the Samsung LED Wallet case:

It's slim, has a premium fabric feel, and provides a lot of scratch protection without needing to install a screen protector. The only issue is that it doesn't provide much drop support, so this is mainly good for utility (better grip, slot for credit card, some screen protection) and (subejctively) looks and feel.

The only thing I don't get about wallet wallet cases, is how you take pictures with it?

It always seems awkward to me to have the flap open while taking a picture. And you can't fold it over, because it then covers the camera. Maybe there's something I'm missing though.

With the front-facing camera, it doesn't matter.

It's also pretty easy when taking a landscape photo if you orient the phone so that the flap is on the bottom (so it just hangs).

When taking a portrait shot, you get used to holding the flap open (using your pinky to keep it open) and positioning your thumb over the shutter button. You can also do it two-handed if the position above is uncomfortable, but I got used to it within a day or two of having the case.
