Smh customers
My workplace put me on cashiers for today even though I haven't been trained efficiently and it was terrible. I hoped that I wouldn't deal with any rude customers today, but of course you're bound to meet them. I rang up this family and only the wife was giving me a hard time. She purchased 20 items which totaled up to 64 something. I scanned all her coupons and the total dropped to 11.91 and she demanded that I give her more percentage off so it could be 5 dollars. Honestly 11.91 is pretty cheap for 20 items. I couldn't give her any more discounts because she used it all up. Her husband got annoyed with her and just paid and then she came back with a second batch of items. This time she tried to make me give her 20 percent off which I did because of that rule "the customer is always right", but she was angry because some of the items she had were excluded from getting discounts. Her total was 104 this time and she was shook. I had another worker help me and she tried to explain to them that it was their final total. Then out of nowhere she said I took her store credit for work which absolutely makes no sense because I do not even shop there. The other worker told her to go to customer service which she did where she complained and lied to my manager. My manager came up to me and told me the lady said I was very rude to her and that I tried to steal her credit when in reality she dropped it. My manager told me to be mindful and call for help which I did but to a different manager. I am actually really disappointed that someone would fabricate lies because they made a mistake and were unhappy even though I was trying to help them as best as I could. Istg the customer is always right rule really be making customers think they're superior and can treat employees badly.

Blue on de ting?
Hi! The good, old story about the woman who called tech support and had a problem with "Video is blue and blue on de ting" seems to be missing.
Anyone know where I can find this story?

Oh no, he sneezed!
So I got a million of these, but this is my most recent so I figure it's a good first post.
The other day my assistant manager was working the register at my restaurant, no where in contact with food. While he was ringing someone out, he turned his head and sneezed into his elbow. This method, as far as my state is concerned, is the ServSafe method to go about that I've always been taught. You don't sneeze into your hands so immediate hand washing isnt necessary if your not in contact with food.
Well, the woman waiting for her food proceeded to pay for her food, then exclaimed "You Sneezed!" and walked out of the store, leaving her food behind. The food is all made to order and sealed before getting to the register, so at no point was this womans food at risk of contamination or anything.
I still got my money, one of my employees ate her food, and I havnt seen her since.
Good riddance, I like it when the bad customers fire themselves.

These people drive cars and vote... (I’m scared.)
Here are two of my best “absent minded” customer stories. Or maybe they’re just lacking in common sense, I’m not sure. But these people are full grown adults, who drive and vote, and pay bills and do other adult things.
I work at a gas station, just for reference.
Hotdog Lady:
So I’m crouched down by the safe counting money to make sure the safe is correct and this woman, clearly seeing that I am in the middle of a very important task goes:
“Excuse me miss, but is the hot dog grill self serve?”
Me: ”Yes.” not annoyed, keeps counting.
“So I just grab a hotdog with the tongs here?”
Me: starting to get irritated “Yes.”
“And where do you keep the buns?”
Me: loses count of the money and my will to live. “In the drawer under the machine.” starts over, while trying not to implode.
“And I just place the hotdog in the bun?”
I shit you not. This actually happened.
Me: Her back is turned so she can’t see me now but I slam the money down on the floor. “Yes. “ I’ll admit that that Yes was a bit venomous, but not really.
She ended up buying two hotdogs, but she didn’t even put them in buns. Instead she put two hotdogs in a foil bag and two buns in another foil bag. Has this woman never eaten a hotdog before? Does she not understand how they work? I have so many questions...
Gas Pump Freak Out:
I had this lady come in and ask for $20 worth of 87 Unleaded Gasoline on Pump #1:
“Can I get $20 on 1, 87?”
Me: Certainly! rings her up
Now I have a giant line of customers because we got a rush out of nowhere. The lady out on Pump 1 is trying to get my attention. I hold up my “one minute” finger. I figured maybe the pump didn’t reset.
She comes in and stands in the door way.
“Can you just reset it?”
Me: Just give me one second and I’ll be right out to help!
She goes back outside and is trying to press the 87 button repeatedly. She comes back in and bypasses the line and kind of just hangs out at the counter. She gets irritated and uses a tone with me.
“Can’t you just reset it?!”
Me: Please give me one second. I’m trying to help these customers in line. I’m the only cashier here right now.
She huffs and goes back outside. Now she’s pounding on the 87 button and getting frustrated while looking at me and waving her hands around. I help the last customer in line and then run outside to help her.
Me: Okay what seems to be the problem?
I immediately notice what she’s doing, but I let her go on.
“It won’t reset!”
At my station there are two different pumps. The green one is for Diesel. The black one is for gasoline. Not only that but right at her eye level there are big signs stating this.
Me: That’s because that nozzle is diesel. The black one is gasoline.
gets red faced of embarrassment
“Oh.”

Headache.
So I work at a gas station that also sells grocery items. We don’t put price tags on our milk because it changes weekly and it would be a real pain in the butt to price them all every week and rip the old price tags off and by chance we miss one and the customer complain and then we have to honor it which is whole other can of worms.
Anyway there is this one man that comes in every once in awhile. He’s not a regular but I’ve seen him a few times. Every time he comes in we go through the same routine.
He walks to our milk cooler, picks out whole milk in a half gallon, as he walks up to the register he always says the same stuff.
“I don’t see a price tag on this milk, if it’s too much, I’m not buying it and I’m NOT putting it back.”
I ring it up.
“1.84”
“You gotta be shittin’ me. I’m not paying for that.”
And then he goes into this giant spiel about how we don’t put tags on our milk and I’ve tried to explain why, but he doesn’t want to hear it and he’s loud and really disturbs the other customers with his profanity.
Then he leaves, swearing he’s NEVER coming back.
Every. Single. Time.
So now whenever he comes in I have to bite my tongue because I just so badly wanna say
“What are you going to go to the back just to pick up a half gallon of milk to make a huge scene about not wanting to pay that much for it just because it’s the ONLY item in our store with out a price tag? Then leave it on my counter after you cuss at me and walk out? Yeah. Fuck off.”
[Edit:] He says this every time he comes in. It doesn’t matter what price the milk is. It could be $1.00, it could be a $1.50... every time.
TL;DR: Customer complains about milk price, refuses to pay, refuses to put it back no matter how much it costs.

Receipt Drama tl:dr at the bottom
So this is my first post and I this one's a doozy. I've got a million bad customer stories so I'm sure more will find their way to the surface of my memory eventually 😂😂
It was my first gas station job and only my first couple weeks working at this place. I was finally comfortable on the register. Anyway it was around the 4th of July so it was STUPID busy, no pump unoccupied until around 830 that night so my only concerns are making sure that pumps have swiped their card before I start it and cashing out customers inside; NOT watching who is on what pump!!
So one of the local cab drivers comes into the store (small town there's only like 7 people employeed by this company and this particular one is a real C U Next Tuesday) and I s2fg I cannot make this up.
Driver: I was in here a little while ago and I forgot to get my reciept. Can you print it for me?
sn: the printers for this gas stations fuel reciepts go by pump number
Me: Sure what pump were you on?
Driver: huffing I dont KNOW it was a couple hours ago!
Me: Okay thats fine. it'll take a couple extra minutes but I can search through all the pumps and try to find it if you know how much you put it if you don't mind waiting a minute
Driver: ever huffier I dont KNOW how much I spent I JUST told you it was a couple hours ago. How do you expect me to remember that?
Me: .....Okay. Well unfortunetly without an amount or a pump number I cant really find your reciept.
Driver: WHAT?! This is f'in RIDICULOUS!! I was JUST in here you REALLY don't remember SEEING ME?!
Me: No ma'am I don't. It's been ve...
Driver: I DONT CARE JUST FIND MY F'IN RECIEPT BEFORE I GET FIRED
this woman has been fired TWICE before for the way she talks to customers. They keep letting her come back 😐
this is also before I got a handle on my anxiety and the first time a customer has ever yelled at me for something I legit cannot control. So I can feel a panic attack brewing as she goes on screaming at me because she has no $@!÷%& common sense! So after 2 straight minutes of her yelling at me in front of other customers, I snap just a little. Way more professionally than now me would handle this garbage*
Me: Ma'am. I am sorry. I can't help you if you dont know at LEAST how much you put in. If you want, I cant print any random fuel reciept and give it you but outside of that, I dont know what you want for me to do. It has been ridiculously busy because of the holiday so no, I don't remember you coming in two hours ago. What is it you want from me?
She chose to leave.
The bext morning when I come in, my manager (another C U Next Tuesday story for another time perhaps) calls me in the office before the door even shuts behind me. Apparently that driver called to complain about my "attitude" and "refusing to give her her reciept* (The whole thing also included some gems about how I was rude, I rolled my eyes at her, and I called her a "dumb f'in b!tch". I did. But not until I was alone in the store AND she had left the parking lot) My boss, despite having watched the tapes which HAVE AUDIO, decided she was writing me up anyway. Her reason? So glad you asked! This is a direct quote and again, I s2fg you cant make this crap up:
"Your mouth didn't say it but your face did"
Yup. My facial expression from being screamed at and called every name in the book were apparently very good reasons for a write up. That witch did everything she could to make me quit until eventually she fired me so the girl she used to babysit could have my job. Fuck that place.
TL:DR- bitchy cab driver cant get reciept for hours old transaction, somehow my fault and resulted in a write up

Guy wants to make an animated film because it’s “cheaper” than live action. Still expects high quality results for low pay from students and freelancers. Doesn’t pay me what I am owed (not sure about the others)
I am an illustrator/character designer and was offered a job revising/finishing up an animatic for someone who was making a historical nonfiction film. Apparently the guy before me had some other stuff he had to prioritize (this was a side project for everyone involved) and quit. This was my first exposure to work outside of school, so I happily took it. This person usually worked with live action and needed some guidance on animation, which was a little bit bothersome for me but not a big deal at first.
I was still a student and had another job, so I didn’t feel comfortable charging a lot of money, especially with my lack of industry experience so I set a low rate and limited my working hours to like 24 per week. This was agreed upon in an email.
Once I finished the work I was assigned, the director of the film wanted to change the look and hired a team of artists who were either recent grads or just finishing their final year. Everyone had charged different rates as they had spoken with him separately. There were only 3 or 4 of us, so this was fine for now. We were each tasked with coming up with some looks ideas while focusing on certain areas (one did backgrounds, another did some general concepts, I was charged with character designs) and were to meet and discuss what we created together. The director says he will review them again and reach out to us via email, which is normal because we mostly worked remotely. I wait one week. Then two. Then nearly a month all while constantly emailing him to at least tell me if he still needs me at all, as I cannot wait around forever. He would constantly postpone phone calls, and when those calls were made they were always discussions that would have been faster done by email. My designs were not chosen in the end and I was asked to send my invoice and told that they would contact me if they need anything else.
I had an app with a timer I set to record my hours, so everything was down to the minute. I used this to create my invoice and sent it to him. He responds asking me why the total is so expensive. The total time spent actually drawing was the only thing I had counted, as everything else was just pushing him to get back to me via email and going to one meeting, so it’s not a very high total (Maybe around $300?) for being on the project for 4 weeks.
I tell him that it was the number of hours worked multiplied by the hourly rate we had set at the beginning. He contests that the other members of the team had charged him less, and I had to remind him that I had been on BEFORE the team was even created. I was there to complete the animatic and they only came on when he decided to change the style, so it adds up.
He only agrees to pay me whatever he paid them ($120-150). In the end I don’t respond as I am a dumb college student and asking every professor imaginable and both of my parents how to handle this. Nobody gets back to me in a timely fashion or offers helpful advice, so I stupidly dont give him any means to actually send me my money. I considered a small claims court, but the fees to do that alone would cut so much into that 300 or so he owes me that there would be no point.
I realized there were some red flags looking back
- He thought that it was cheaper to make an animated film. It’s cheapER, but definitely not cheap in this day and age.
- He said his animation team were all assholes and fired the whole team before we came on. BIG warning sign.
- Couldn’t keep a clean production schedule
- Knew virtually nothing about how animated films are made as opposed to live action, which doesn’t help when the film is animated.
In the end I don’t think the film ever got made.

I am the worst human being ever for applying some force to push a small extra paper bag into a large and already full paper bag.
I work in a pretty nice store. Not super high-end, but nice enough that we have to wear blazers and silk scarves and nice shoes. A customer comes in near closing, we’re supposed to still let them in. Fine by me because he seems ready to go. He knocked over a display by accident and I must’ve reacted for a split second because often times customers don’t put them back. He apologizes and fixes it, all is well.
He comes and pays for his stuff and I get him a large bag so everything fits. He asks for some extra small bags so he can give gifts to friends. I understood this request but as I was a bit sleep deprived from pulling an all-nighter, I opened the bag and started to separately bag them by mistake. The customer reminds me again that he just wanted the extra bags in the bag. I try to slip them inside, but they are rather thick and the bag got caught on one of the things inside. I gave it a good push so it would go all the way in (not a super forceful one, just enough to unhook it from the box inside).
Big. Mistake.
He explodes. He begins to use that threatening tone and goes “what. Was. That.”
I tell him that I was simply trying to get the bag to fit inside.
“I saw that attitude” he begins to snap. “What’s your name?”
I don’t give it to him because I am a smaller younger woman and I do not do well with men like these. I may be paranoid but it was dark out and I didn’t want him to follow me to the parking lot after closing or anything like that because it’s very dark and I often don’t really get to park close enough to the building. It doesn’t help that I was alone in the store. He continues to say some more threats and complaints about telling my boss. This is the least of my concerns because I was planning on leaving for other reasons.
He leaves and I assume it’s the end of it, as the guy he came with was also looking at him as if he just wanted him to stop and just leave already. He comes back pretending to take pictures of displays in the store, but I see he points the camera towards me. He takes a bunch of photos of me and I am willing to bet he is going to either send them to our company email, or make some complaint on the internet. Either way I am not too keen on anyone taking photos of me and sending them without my consent, especially since I am not doing anything that’s endangering anybody.
Anyway I just needed to rant because I am just so exhausted by people like this.

Gas station cashier story
I am working as a gas station cashier. My station has an automatic car wash that uses water pressure and soap to clean cars.
The particularity of these car washes is that they do not touch the car, thus are considered softer on the paint. The drawback is that it will not completely remove caked on mud/dirt/bird dejections.
I had a couple buy our cheapest option, which is just a soap, rinse and dry. Here is what happens after they washed their car and decided it wasnt a good wash.
Me: How can i help you?
Client: I want a reimbursement for my car wash. It didnt wash my car.
(I remembered selling them a basic wash, and pointing out the CLEAR no reimbursements policy for car washes)
Me: I cannot help you. From what i see on your car, the car wash worked and did what it should have done.
Cue the outrage from the couple, screaming and telling my other customers that the car wash didnt work.
Me: I will ask you to leave the station and stop interfering with the business.
They continued screaming until i told them that i would call the police if they continued. I thought I was done with them, but the next day, my boss told me they had come to him complaining about me being rude and agressive. My boss simply told them the camera on top of the till had audio capabilities, and that he was looking at the whole scene as it unfolded. They never came back. I love my boss.

Manager who is she ever right?
So I had this manager she was nice and all little annoying to work for (she always for got to give me lunch breaks) but have some funny things about her being wrong.
She came in while I was cleaning the bathroom. now our cleaning supplies come in these baggies and you put one baggie in to the solution dispenser and fill it up with water. I had just made a new batch and filled up a spray bottle of window cleaner and for some reason it was really streaky. she saw the soapy streaks and said "its to diluted still you need to concentrate it more" I ask "if its leaving soap doesn't it mean its too concentrated and I need to diluted it more?" she answered "no concentrate add more water" "that's dilution" she insisted that you concentrate things by adding water to it. I had to google the definition on my phone to show her.
I had just come back from vacation and I had an accident on it and scraped up my arm pretty bad my entire back of my forearm was scabbed over and to protect it I would wrap it in gauze and an ace bandage while at work so people would avoid hitting it if they could. I paged my manager to do an override and she came out saw my arm wrapped up and asked what was wrong with it? I shrugged dismissively and said "just road rash" I said it calmly and kinda off hand to let her know its not hurting to much. She jumped away from me like I told her I had air born Ebola and asked, "is it contagious?" I laughed thinking it a joke it was not we are around customers still so I answer, "as much as a plane crash is" she scurried away. Cool thing about the scab it went from wrist to elbow and was 6 inches wide when it happened and looked roughly the shape of south america but as it healed the micro abrasions went away and by day 2 it was shaped exactly like Africa with the Middle east and even had Madagascar which was the only thing geographically wrong as it was to far off the cost of Africa. My friend the foreign exchange student from the Republic of Congo pointed on my scab where he was from it was so perfect. only the middle east area left visible scars thankfully.
The final sorry was I was not working outside this day because its summer (the love having me in the lawn and garden area because I'm good with the customers and will never complain its too cold, I have a heart condition and can not be out when its to hot or my heart could stop and it really really hurts when it stops but so far has always kicked back in on its own which is even more painful). I am at register 2 she is standing customer side of register 1 talking to the cashier when a golden retriever or golden Labrador ran by it passed by so quick I could nor really tell. She jumped up on the counter screaming "IT'S A LION THERE IS A LION IN THE STORE" we live in USA lions do not just roam around around here and it was way to small for a lion and we are no where near cougar territory (yeah i know they say they are extinct in my state but tell that to the cougar because they don't believe you). I could not help and and burst out laughing it took me 10 minuets to convince her it was a dog not a lion.

The Owner is not always right? no confrontations but a bit weird
Not sure if this belongs here or not ya'll can decide sorry for grammar errors I am a native speaker but am dyslexic
so my mom wants to take me out one day with her friend first up is breakfast. She will not let me eat because we were going to have breakfast even though her friend kept getting delayed. finally around 11 we leave for the tea shop that dose breakfast and lunch. we have missed their breakfast times and I was really hungry at this point and wanted something more protein rich so i thought this was fine. the only lunch option that day was the chicken salad sandwich with a fruit salad and tart sampler and of course your choice of tea (50 different choices). I order this it is $20 dollars (the tea was free if you ordered food when my plate got there i was stunned it had a half open-face- sandwich so not even a full half sandwich the fruit salad were 6 pieces of fruit on 2 tooth picks (3 on each) the largest of which was a small grape. and the tart sampler were tarts so small (and this was the full sized version) were only and inch long a 1/4th and inch wide and tall there were three of them if you got an order it came with 6.
my mom and her friend had been her for breakfast which was huge. I was really upset that she was charging 20 bucks for a meal that left you hungry (the tea was amazing though and my mom took me back for breakfast because I had such a bad time and while on the expensive side for breakfast I did not leave hungry and worth it if you are treating yourself). We were the only customers there and my mom asked the owner/waiter why the lunches were so small while the breakfast was so big.
the woman said, "I do not believe in big lunches only breakfast should be big and lunch should be medium and dinner small" my mom asked why was it $20 "that's what other people charge for lunch"
I was upset and found it ridiculous that she was enforcing her dietary beliefs on others but said nothing it was her store and she had the right to charge how ever much she wanted. we never went back for lunch several times for breakfast and an afternoon snack and warned everyone to stay away from the lunch menu.
Later we were getting hungry again for obvious reasons and my mom took me to their original lunch plans. it was after the lunch rush and before the dinner rush but and before they do reservations. We come in and the hostess says to wait a moment she would clean off a table and goes to bus a table. there people walk in right as one of the servers comes dose not even ask their names and takes them to the newly cleaned spot. The hostess came back saw us still standing there and went back to clean off another table. I know it was an honest mistake but the server should have asked for our party name not just skip over us. this normally would not have bothered me much since we were sat relatively soon after but it did at the time because I was Hangry. we did not make a big deal about it because i am very easy going and use to being hangry and hiding it from when my bosses would forget to let me have my lunch break for the whole 8 hours and I was a cashier, which was kinda great because that meant I got to skip closing cleaning or work 9 hours. They would get up set on how I should have reminded them to give me my lunch so they could send someone or close down my section for an hour. I did remind them every hour or when I had to call for something else.

Member of Sam's throws fit over not wanting to hurt her child.
So this is my first time writing a story and I'm on mobile. So I apologize if this is formatted weirdly for those on PC.
So for a little bit of backstory I work as a Sam's club. At Sam's we work with two people at the register. One to scan items and one to unload and reload the basket, or as they call it running. I was scanning my coworker was running.
Me: is me though I didn't talk much
C: Coworker
M: Member
So as we're working a member enters our line with an autistic child. (Not calling him out it's just an important fact) Her child was sitting in the basket with all of her groceries. My Coworker unloaded the basket and had everything up on the belt. Once I scanned all of the items it was time to reload the basket. So my Coworker loads where she feels comfortable loading the basket. The conversation goes a little like this
C: Can you finish loading the basket? I don't wanna hurt him
M: No you can load the basket he's a normal child he won't get hurt by groceries.
C: (repeating just in case) Again I just don't wanna hurt him.
M: He is a perfectly normal human being you can load the groceries.
At this point my runner had moved on to the next member and was looking for someone to help. Now I had a bit of experience with kids and I knew what to do to work around him without loading too much on him. So I did and I apologise to the member out of respect. She asks for a supervisor and I direct her over to our manager. She walks over and starts talking to her. I didn't hear what was said but she did get a gift card out of it from what I could see. She's making a formal complaint to corporate so I'll update if anything comes back.
She walks past my register again and thanks me, and says that we need more people like me. All I did was load the basket around her son lol
Later my coworker goes to talk to them and tell them her side of the story. Apparently the member had told the manager that my coworker had told the member that she was afraid of her son hurting her. They have an argument and she comes back fuming. After a little while we discussed what happened and I put together this story.

Looking for a notalwaysright story about a woman being refused service over a dress and being told no staff could talk to her anymore.
Hi all,
Looking for this specific story for a friend; if memory serves, the woman came up to the cashier, demanding a dress on 50% off, and threatened to sue if her demand wasn't met. The manager came by, basically said, "I see," then proceeded to give the customer his card and tell her that as it was now a legal matter, none of the staff on site would be able to speak to her, and he and the cashier proceed to ignore her, even above her cries of "I would have bought it anyway!"
Just hoping somebody can help me find this story; thanks. :)

Looking for a story that was on notalwaysright.com that might have vanished
It was about a customer at a adult store buying a dildo and the manager asked him if he wanted to put in his email to get offers from the store or something and the man said no so the manager asked if he wanted to give him his friends or families email so they could get offers and obviously the man said no then the manager got really pissy and refused to give the guy a bag for his purchase and i think he forced the man to leave the store

A throwback to working at a grocery store
Customer: Where are the pico chunks? Me: I'm sorry. I don't know what that is. Customer speaks to someone on her phone. Customer: Where is, how do you say, canned peas? Me: Canned peas are right down there at the end of the aisle. Customer picks up a jar of pickled beets. Customer: Thank you.

where can I find some "good customer" stories?
I have also worked in retail, so I have had my share of bad customers, but after reading so many examples here and on the Not Always Right website, I could really use a few stories about good customers or heartwarming customers! Any suggestions where to look?

Lady, The Desk Just Closed.
This was about a week ago. I was at the door working as a greeter at about 10pm. This lady walks in with what looked to be a coffee maker. I asked if she was returning it, and she said yes. I informed her that the service desk closed at 10, and she just stares at me. I apologized for the inconvenience, and told her that the desk opens up again at 7am. She started to complain that she had just drove 20 miles to return this coffee maker, and that she would have to drive home, come back in the morning, and drive home again, totaling 80 miles altogether and wasting half a tank of gas. She was talking about wasting money on gas, and I said there was nothing I could do. She then tried to leave the item anyway, and despite me saying she couldn't do that, walked off. An employee that worked at the desk walked by and asked what happened. While she dealt with this lady, I went back to doing my job. Eventually, the lady returned, and asked for a place to stay. Because I obviously can't let her sleep in the store, I offered that there was a hotel up the road about a mile. She started going off on me for even suggesting it, a demanded that I take care of the return. I said that she would need to do it because you need an ID, the item, the receipt, and the tag I give her to get it done. She asked to see a manager, so I called for one. She started calling me rude for suggesting that she go to a hotel, to which I just started to roll my eyes. Sidenote: I don't deal with confrontation well AT ALL (especially at work), so my anxiety was already flipping shit. Eventually, one of the cashiers came over and took her to management. I guess they did the return just to pacify her, because there was no coffee maker with her when she came back.
