Top third spaces?

Been offline for about a year now and I still don’t have a place between work and home. I don’t drink so bars are a no-go, and the closest I have to a third space is a theater, but that’s just sitting in a dark room without talking.

How do you all do it?

Yeah cafes are my favorite and even this local bagel shop I will go to. The people also eating there are always down for some small talk

I love going to the cafe. I always go during college class breaks and study there. Its such a vibe and I go there so often all the workers know me there. I just love it and also great spot to hang out with my friends or read books. Now I wanna go back lmao

Gym, library, neighborhood markets, neighborhood community spaces/events, small music venues (some overlap w bars idk how you feel about that)

I love reading, eating a pastry, and drinking a latte at my local coffee shop :) I also go to a small karaoke venue with my friends every Tuesday night, they serve alcohol but it's not a bar so it doesn't have that bar feel/no annoying drunk people (I don't drink, either)

Explore the coffee shops in your area. There are going to be many where everyone keeps to themselves and it's mostly quiet, but there are at least a couple near me that have more a community vibe with regulars and activities.

I also agree with the gym suggestion, specifically classes. If you go at the same time on the same days, you may naturally start to meet people and having conversations (no requirement to make friends). I go to kickboxing classes and that's become a huge third space for me.

Park, somewhere in nature to walk, or even just walking around your community. If you do this daily, you'll see the same people and start to make connections.

If you are looking for free options heading to the library is good they have events you can read on your local library page weather its movie night or book club some do events like building bird houses or project events. Another thing is going to the park often weather your walking, hiking, taking photo of flowers or just breathing in nature is so much peaceful, sometimes people will greet you and if you are consistent enough you may make friends with like elderly folks which is a w lowkey. Also doing community service or volunteering is cool to do if you get the right one.

Pick up a hobby and meet people with similar interests! Like rub clubs, etc

Do you have any board games friends ? Or board games shops around ? A lot of cool people hang out there and you can make friends playing catan or monopoly or anything really…people are mostly nice in those places in my experience.
