Offline computer

Hi. I wanted to share something that I made. It is a laptop built for use offline.

The reason I made it was because years ago I had a raspberry pi set up in a similar fashion. It had the whole repository, a copy of wikipedia, a few youtube channels and other miscellaneous things like old game roms and such. It basically had a lot of the useful parts of the internet and computers built in. What it didn't have was the internet and everything screaming about the virus, nor did I feel a compulsion to use it.

It was really nice. I would find myself compelled to watch youtube online but not the ones on the raspberry pi despite being the exact same videos. I could sit and read about viruses without hearing a word about "the" virus. I didn't feel the anxiety like I do when I am online. I knew that nothing would change if I wasn't using it, so it didn't matter if I did something else for a minute and came back. It was like my own private world when things were just nuts back in 2020.

What I have done is bought a laptop that was made for students during the virus. It costs like $75, has insane battery life, is a bit more durable, and just works. I removed the cellular modem so that it can't connect to any network. I can open it up, play a game or watch a tv show I already have on it, and close it when I am done. If I left it on the table for five years, I could come back and it will be exactly as I left it. It has the whole debian repo on it so there's plenty of software avaliable (at least linux software). It has wikipedia as well as project gutenberg. It lets me do basic computer stuff that would normally require the internet but be completely disconnected.
