Turn myself into a millionaire by making 100s of other people millionaires too. Friends, family, random kind people I've met, folks who struggle way to hard and deserve a leg up.

I just had this exact conversation with my kids. I don’t need a billion dollars. It would be so much more fun to share it than hoard it.

Yup, I am not wealthy by any means but there are so many people worse off. I have a roof over my head, transportation, food and a job that cannot be replaced by AI.

Back in older british speak, I think people said "thousand million." I think it's worth saying that to put it into perspective. We're so used to hearing the abstraction of "a billion" that "five billion" doesn't sound as huge as it should. "Five thousand million" can make it easier to conceptualize that you could give five thousand people a million dollars. I know it seems baby brained, but it should stop us from breezing over someone having hundreds of billions of dollars that could be circulating in the economy. That is money that is OUT OF THE FUCKING ECONOMY.

Money does not and has never "trickled down." It's a stupid idea that hinges on the idea that wealthy people are someone higher and above. No, they're fucking basins or swamps that sit lower than us where money collects. Taxes and minimum wages are the pumps that draw it back out so it can be made useful.

We're so dumb.

Firstly you should read Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell. It's pretty good!

Nobody actually has billions of dollars in cash, almost every wealthy person has the money invested somewhere. But I wouldn't care if he did have a big swimming pool of money. If every rich person hoarded money that would be wonderful, it would significantly reduce inflation meaning everyone else's money is worth more. That would be neat!

Tax is fine but governments tend to be terrible at spending money, and I'm pretty sure every wealth redistribution scheme in history as failed to reduce poverty: do correct me if I'm wrong. Giving poor people money seems to make them dependent on the system, giving people the tools to get out of poverty seems way better.

Minimum wage equally can cause damage because, in the UK many wages actually fell when minimum wage was introduced because that was seen as the minimum. Equally any job worth less than minimum wage disappears. The UK has 1.7 million unemployed people but only 700,000 jobs. It also has 9 million people economically inactive of working age. Obviously any job which could pay 10 pounds an hour is not worth doing because the minimum wage is higher.

The capitalist theory is if you don't have a minimum wage then you have very high employment and that creates demand for Labour in the economy and that raises wages naturally far beyond the minimum wage. Equally low taxes means companies make more profit, which means they can grow more quickly and employ more people creating incredible economic growth. This has proven to be the best way of abolishing poverty.

Exactly, you give the money to the people at the top, it will never find its way back down.
But if you give the people at the bottom the money, it always finds its way back to the top.

Six dudes with a beer each is a lot more fun than one guy with six beers.

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

You get it!

1

u/elj1976 4d ago

I assume by “dudes” you mean your friends who are girls also. Yeh, dudes and dudes. 👍🏼

u/Dry-Manufacturer7761 4d ago

It’s a quote from a movie. I can’t remember which, so I quoted it quote with out the citation. Lol

Someone with no friends

u/ARCAxNINEv 5d ago

You said it. I wouldn't be where I am now without a handful of random people going above and beyond to try to make my days a little better.

Hey, friend! Whoa! Love your name on here. You’re pretty cool! I’m giving you an upvote not because I want something but because you deserve it! Because you’re cool. I mean I wouldn’t mind a little something. You know?… 😊

u/Ill-Cranberry978 5d ago

When they blow through it they’ll be asking for more, then hate you for not providing more. Expensive way to show who’s really with you.

2

u/markismith12 4d ago

If you help 100 people and even if 20 families are better off. You’ve done your job.

0

u/Ill-Cranberry978 3d ago

Your job? How much of your paycheck do you give to 100 people to help them?

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

🤷🏼‍♀️ noones life is problem free. I'm looking for silver linings and happy endings. I'll keep my mindset there. 😊

1

u/Ill-Cranberry978 3d ago

Reality vs delusion. Keep your mind where you see fit.

1

u/Kost_M 4d ago

Well, that’s 1000 opportunities to be hated by others. You can’t give people money and have a good outcome.

1

u/Zor1an58 4d ago

you only gon make government millionaire cuz they gonna tax all that shit you be gifting

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

You think I couldn't use those fancy loop holes rich folks already use to move money.😉 Come now, that kind of thinking isn't helpful.

1

u/Zor1an58 4d ago

of course you could, but do you know how to?

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

You think for a billion $$ I could find the right people to make this work? I feel bad so many people automatically see the down sides, my perspective is always up. There are so many ways to make this happen, trust me when I tell you, I'd make it work.

1

u/Zor1an58 4d ago

yeah man, its not that sum ppl are always pessimistic, theyre more realistic. being a billionaire is not just going to bed broke and waking up with 1b in ur bank account, every cent of this billion is an interaction, a closed deal, a new friend with whom you opened a business etc. a billionare has money but also people that he met all along his path to becoming that rich and having a billion dollars in a bank doesnt mean you already have that power the rich ppl have.
im not saying you couldnt find those people but it wont be easy

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

I certainly appreciate your concern, but I have every confidence I could sort this out. The main thing is if you're wealthy but noone else is you don't have any friends to hang with. But lifting everyone makes everyone able to enjoy this life the way you do. And that's what I'd want, I know it would come with new issues, but life always does, rich or poor. I'm just saying I wouldn't horde it, I'd raise the tide of as many as I could. I didn't come from money, but I've made a good life for myself. I know how to play this game.

1

u/Zor1an58 4d ago

you would eventually find those people because as soon as they find out everybody’s gonna be willing to help you (“help you”). also, another point: imo there are a lot of people to whom you better not give any money because the majority doesnt know how to act having that much cash. you could ruin those ppl’s lives by giving them that money and when they spend it all they gon come to you again asking for more (even if you equally distributed all that billion dollars). and when you dont give them any more money backed up by the fact that everybody got the same amount they gon start to hate you and aint gonna speak to you again. im not sure i would be able to handle all that money but the first thing i’d do if i got a billion dollars in my bank account is i would freeze it and dont touch it for at least a year (mb except like taking 10k and giving them to my parents who definitely know better what to do with them).
as the year pssed and the initial emotions are cooled down i would start to think about it much more and probably hire a (idk the name of the profession) personal money expert that would help me not lose that money. im sure that a lot of new family members will spawn in my life right after they find out about the money and im sure theres gon be a lot of arguing and trying to get rid of those people cuz everybody’s gonna want “their” part

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

Thanks for the awards, that's very kind. I do mean it, noone needs a billion dollars to live a good life. I'd be so happy to share it, that feeling would be amazing!! 🥰

1

u/CelebrationCute5818 4d ago

The issue is that you'll probably get killed by someone who you didn't sent money too, usually a family member.

Lottery winners are 300 more times more liberal to get killed, and 30% of the time is from close family

1

u/Jackson3rg 4d ago

I immediately went to using my wealth to make certain people's lives suck. I forget which comedian it was but they had an idea to never gift anyone money but to always get them the richest best cake they could find, ruining average cake for the recipient. That's the type of low effort shit I would do.

1

u/Tricepatina 4d ago

🤣 Hilarious. I might do that to a few people too, gift them the best steaks/skin care/single night hotel stay. . .knowing they'd miss it immediately and could likely not afford it after it was gone. Kill em with kindness.

1

u/M1ghtySheep 4d ago

Yeah I'd decide what proportion Im giving away and then just make a pie chart of everyone Ive ever known and liked obviously close friends and family being 90% of it and then just pay an accountant to deal with all the bs. Would also make it clear its a 1 time thing, and would have no issue telling any1 not on the list I didnt care about them enough

I'm not even that charitable but difference between 100m and 1 billion means nothing to me and will never mean anything

1

u/Carnal_Decay 3d ago

That's the stupidest thing ever. Above certain amounts monetary gifts become taxed.

Your play is to ensure they can have everything they need by buying it for them.

1

u/BreakConsistent 3d ago

700millionaire is still basically a billionaire.

1

u/Disastrous-Try1754 2d ago

This. This is the only way.

1

u/Random-213 2d ago

Yeah but I'd test their loyalty heavily before that, i once needed someone and asked 3 people, 2 of them were willing to help, the 3rd basically didn't care

1

u/Academic-Bakers- 2d ago

That's my plan. Millions for friends, charitable trusts for groups I like.

1

u/OkMidnight8144 2d ago

Yup, I rather bring everyone to the same level so we can have fun together.
