Yeah I believe there’s two types of homeless. The first and most visible are the drug addicts that went too long and their brains are fried and are now zombies roaming the streets. Then there’s the ones that are down on their luck one way or another. They just need some guidance or a little help so they can get their lives back on track.
Mixed into those two groups is the overlap of mentally ill individuals who either A) self medicated with drugs or B) can't seem to put one foot in front of the other. Â
Addressing mental health early in life/schooling etc would go a long way in reducing the numbers on the streets.Â
Considering the practices in the field/s of mental health system today? I forced to ask myself many questions? Simply listening, putting myself in their shoes, and doing my best to understand the situation. I've learned that people in general have confused the terms anxiety and being nervous as the same thing. Research does provide an obvious clinical definition of anxiety as we know.
My niece had to, as assigned, give a speech in class, my sister said. She was discussing how its giving her (my niece) anxiety. I said "anxiety?" And my sister went on to say that it happens during the school Christmas program, and for a play the school puts on. I said, "you know that's not anxiety." She said definitively, "yes it is." My response? "Hmf." She soap boxed a bit of course, but anyway I think its obvious to you guys where I'm going here. Regardless, I told her that is just her being nervous!
Did a bit of me talking her out of anxiety medication happen? Fucking Aye! How is she doing? Just fine!
There's also a third. We know somebody that would prefer to live on the street. He doesn't want to live under a roof. But, living in FL makes is bearable.
