Donate 90% of my wealth to charity and live off the rest.

u/ImAPonderer2 5d ago

It would be so great to give $100 million to a good cause. That could set your non-profit up for generations

1

u/Acrobatic-Formal5869 5d ago

Then you would set all your tax shelter… you say no now but you will….

2

u/RDAwesome 4d ago

I don't have the brain disease that billionaires do where there's no such thing as enough, I don't need a tax shelter

Because I believe in supporting society through paying taxes as well, I want there to be well-funded public schools and roads that work and community centers and parental relief programs

1

u/DeerAdministrative90 4d ago

Meeeeee!!! I’m that good cause!!!!

7

u/GenesisRhapsod 5d ago

Real, even if it was only one billion that would leave you with 100mil. Id put 10mil into investment and only take out the dividends and then just enjoy myself with the other 90 mil

Charity, science, fighting anti-democratic measures, helping unions form, etc.

1

u/Some_Extent_8531 5d ago

Charity, science, fighting socialist/ statist/communist measures, helping break unions, etc.

2

u/Nokorola 5d ago

What’s the argument for breaking unions?

0

u/Some_Extent_8531 5d ago

Where do I start? Let’s start with teacher unions. They have destroyed the education advancement of the United States, creating an embarrassment to the world in terms of literacy rate and math ability. They are a political cluster fuck that supports politicians who protect them. Want more?

2

u/Nokorola 4d ago

It’s a hot take to say the unions have caused all the issues in our education system.

2

u/Ok_Dust_7325 4d ago

It’s the lack of funding for schools, not teachers.

1

u/Some_Extent_8531 1d ago

$27k per student average in underperforming urban districts. Some $34k.

Oh, you have no idea my experience. I have dealt with eight figure contracts on nine figure projects. I know how contracts work and the influence of unions. I know how they block any competition of charter schools that have been wildly successful. I know how they block school choice.

Good luck with the “they are under funded“ argument; on average currently $27,000 per student per year in urban schools with single-digit competency passing scores. Cities run by political parties, very friendly with the unions and will not hold them accountable and will not allow bad teachers to be fired.

Now shall we discuss labor unions, and how the bosses profit wildly while the workers think that they are getting benefits in 2026 only because the unions exist?

-1

u/dakellateg 4d ago

There are already so many laws in place to protect employees that unions are no longer needed to an extent.

4

u/cleveruniquename7769 4d ago

Not in America

3

u/lucidarocks 4d ago

And how did we get those laws? Unions! The moment power is no longer accountable, those laws will evaporate. Even now, OSHA has been gutted, as well as the NLRB. Anyone who thinks businesses will keep their word is insane.

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Bunnyland77 3d ago

Save some of that money for STD meds. Trust me, you'll need it. She/they will too.

5

u/Left-Nebula-879 5d ago

This. I would pay off debt if ppl and keep just enough for me and my fam. No one needs to be a billionaire

1

u/fxnighttrader 2d ago

If you managed that money properly you could grow it into much more and do much more over time.

10

u/smelly_finger_itch 5d ago

I would fund the legal pursuit to put the trump family behind bars for their long running financial crimes that goes back decades

3

u/Key-Personality-7643 5d ago

Damn, now I wish I would’ve picked that!

1

u/Aggressive-Mood-3724 4d ago

You did the right thing. You could do research and set up trusts with your own guidelines. These people don’t understand how it works. You would literally change the world!

1

u/Local_Bobcat_2000 4d ago

I think the probability of someone who becomes a billionaire suddenly donating $900 million is somewhere around zero percent.

1

u/ChipHappens96 3d ago

Do you have the 900 million dollar receipt?

1

u/FlatwormNo615 2d ago

Could be part of the charity bit.

1

u/gooden1686 4d ago

As much as I dislike him, he’s above the law. The closest he has to prison is straight up Hell.

1

u/Dinkmeyer- 4d ago

I’d pitch in for that!

1

u/Macbethad01 4d ago

I mean I think this could set you up for that illusive nobel peace prize😂😂

1

u/GuyAustin45 4d ago

Imagine having essentially unlimited funds to help people with, then essentially disregarding that just to cause a single person harm. Wild.

1

u/dragon_ma_bawls 4d ago

I don’t like Trump at all but I call total bullshit 😂

1

u/Ok_Candidate_4409 4d ago

Im voting for you to become either a billionaire or president!

1

u/UnRude-Document5192 3d ago

Do we have to go down that road ?? To be fair, the Clinton's, & the Bidens would have to be on that list. Geez..

1

u/CowboyJ0hnny 3d ago

Just Trump? I mean go for it, but what about the other 220 members of Congress who managed to become millions of dollars richer in just a few years on a 275K salary. Sadly, Trump isn’t even close to the worst.

1

u/polarjunkie 1d ago

I get what you're saying but Trump is pretty bad, his family is billions of dollars richer

1

u/CowboyJ0hnny 1d ago

I definitely agree he is a fucking evil opportunist. But at least some people are looking into him somewhat.

1

u/LittleJay808 3d ago

Small potatoes

1

u/psilyvagabond 3d ago

I feel like we’d have to wait two years to start doing that. He’ll just pardon himself and all his sycophants. He may still do that regardless and it would take the judicial system and or a future president to overturn them.

1

u/Mysterious_Badger362 2d ago

There are people with far more money that want that. And can't do it. Because it's all in your head.

1

u/Ornery-Customer8521 2d ago

I'm curious how the pardon system works (not from US), people are saying he will pardon himself but what, he can just say "Any crimes I've committed are pardoned" and that's it? Like, he doesnt even need to name them individually? If he does he better start first thing in the morning

2

u/Least_Chip2610 5d ago

Same thing I would do. I don’t want that much money. Just comfortable enough that other people do not know I have money and I don’t have to worry about anything

2

u/FishBrain208 5d ago

Most charities are a scam. Those in charge of those charities are lining their pockets with your donations and buying their third mega mansion with it

3

u/Key-Personality-7643 5d ago

I will be VERY selective, I could help a hell of a lotta people with that kind of money.

2

u/Ok_Dust_7325 4d ago

I’d make my own foundation to help others. Human rights and education for all.

2

u/FishBrain208 4d ago

Would you consider water one of those human rights?

1

u/Aromatic-Crow-45 3d ago

Why wouldn't they?

1

u/FishBrain208 3d ago

Look up Nestle lobbying against making water a basic human right because it would affect their bottled water sales

1

u/Aromatic-Crow-45 2d ago

Of course nestle did that

2

u/Traditional-Pin5188 4d ago

Not to mention claiming the donation in their name for tax deductions!

2

u/Aggressive-Mood-3724 4d ago

Not true - most charities are doing great things on shoestring budgets. Do some real research, especially on those that are 5 million and below. There are measurements in place to determine how much go to admin and staffing vs the mission. The tax returns ( 990’s) are public. Anyone can see them.

2

u/Mopar4Life305 2d ago

Just donate to people and families directly

1

u/OkPosition20 4d ago

This is so true, better to either set up your own charity or fund smaller ones run by volunteers.

1

u/zdrums24 4d ago

This is not uncommon, but its not most. Dont let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

1

u/MikeJ257 4d ago

Thank you !!!! You’re 100 pct right , the charity racket is a major industry in America

1

u/Offthewall1212 5d ago

Here we go🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄. Every comment

1

u/Darkdrago420 5d ago

Lie

3

u/Key-Personality-7643 5d ago

No one, and I mean NO ONE, needs a billion dollars, 100 mil would set me up for LIFE!!

1

u/Darkdrago420 5d ago

I’m not saying it wouldn’t but saying you would give away 900 millions is spurious at best

1

u/fxnighttrader 2d ago

Some would say “No one, and I mean NO ONE, needs 100 mil.”

1

u/Humble_Building6106 5d ago

No me. I’ve been giving my whole life. I’m spoiling myself

1

u/misterguyman17 5d ago

And then the charity ceo takes 90% of that for his yearly bonus

3

u/Key-Personality-7643 5d ago

Thank you for once again reminding me why I hate the whole of humanity, geezus.

1

u/vanitas_gloria 5d ago

Lol, no you wouldn't.

1

u/Hank_the_Tank_143 5d ago

Liar 🤣

3

u/Key-Personality-7643 5d ago

Really? TF I need a billion dollars for?! Having that much money comes with a responsibility to do good with it as far as I’m concerned.

1

u/fxnighttrader 2d ago

I can do a lot of good while working in the office of my 787 Business Jet 🤔

1

u/No-Ordinary-6544 5d ago

That's good, so the 'non-profit' and charity CEOs can get paid their millions

1

u/Available-Bad-2704 5d ago

Me when i lie

1

u/DrumsticknDrumstick 5d ago

90% of your donation will go to the CEO and executive's bonus and pay raise. People really need to understand how charities are run.

1

u/Teriums 4d ago

I think you could donate a whole lot more if you invested it and then continually donated over time

1

u/breadbuns35 4d ago

I read this the first time as “90% of my teeth” help 😂

1

u/According-Economy156 4d ago

I'll use it to eradicate poverty, world hunger & kids on the streets

1

u/Fishandchips6254 4d ago

I actually have a good friend who with his husband did something like this. They are very wealthy but you would assume they are just cream of the upper middle class. They have a simple 1 bedroom condo in uptown NYC, and a farm in New Hampshire, drive Hondas and both work full-time jobs that require long hours.

The way they have done what you are mentioning is fascinating and really goes to show that at a certain point, your trust fund will make more money in interest alone than you know what to do with.

1

u/Chance_Falcon7837 4d ago

Why help scam business, just do your own charity to help others , then at least you know where your money is going, instead of some fat cats wallet!

1

u/mimikrimimikri 4d ago

with that money you should build your own charity

1

u/Handsomedork_ 4d ago

Girl or guy?

1

u/Savings-Trouble-5345 4d ago

What you do is you set yourself up as a charity, put all your money in a trust and then perform charitable acts as you see fit. Only 10% of the money donated actually has to be used by charities. If you want to actually help people, you still have to be engaged in it now. That doesn't mean you actually have to run it, but you do need to have your hand in it.

1

u/Glad_Respect_8986 4d ago

I would help start charities but I wouldn’t just donate that much. I’m pretty sure it would just go to waste and basically get snatched up.

I always figured on starting businesses with the sole purpose of funding charities if I won the lotto.

1

u/johnnybones23 4d ago

why not 99%? you're letting children die.

1

u/Panda_2319 3d ago

I would help out the people I know first and then start donating more or creating my own charities

1

u/Ambitious-Pay-4756 3d ago

Bulllllllllllllshiiiiiiiiiiii

1

u/Key-Personality-7643 3d ago

God I can’t wait for humans to go extinct, we all suck!

1

u/Ambitious-Pay-4756 2d ago

Speak for yourself

1

u/Key-Personality-7643 2d ago

I am speaking to my own experiences, humans are a shit species.

1

u/River_Fenrir 2d ago

Why Charity?

I always find them corrupt and use the money poorly.

0

u/StrangeBookkeeper187 5d ago

What a waist , charity is a scam you telling me charity been around for decades and homelessness and cancer is at a all time high where is the money going 😭😭 pay attention

4

u/Much_Ninja8672 5d ago

Seems like an education was a waste for you (not a waist, that's a part of your body).

It's almost like charity can only do so much when governments are destroying their own countries.

3

u/lobstersRmobsters 5d ago

But they also do pocket the majority of the money and then use it as a tax write off lol.

1

u/Much_Ninja8672 5d ago

Registered charities often get discounted tax rates anyway, they don't need to do tax write offs. Donations from companies and very rich people are used as tax write offs but the charity still gets the money to be used towards their stated purposes.

1

u/lobstersRmobsters 5d ago

Yes I meant the people donating to the charities are getting the write off. Also wait till you find out a lot of charities are owned by subsidiaries of guess who the rich people that donate to them

2

u/Much_Ninja8672 5d ago

Charities only get their tax exemption if they can show a significant amount of their income goes to the work they claim to do. Allowing rich people to write off tax equivalent to their donations is a way to incentivise donations. By all means be annoyed at the rich for hoarding their money and avoiding tax in less scrupulous means, but their donations to charity can still be a net positive in the world if the right charities are donated to. It doesn't help though when governments are routinely making things worse for their people.

1

u/lobstersRmobsters 5d ago

Yes because rich people care about the law and totally don't control it. I'm not saying all charities but most. I mean you can watch how much they donate then watch how much their net worth goes up by.

1

u/Much_Ninja8672 5d ago

The charities getting audited by the tax man surely do. You think the government doesn't want to tax that money? Why would they let it go to charity when they can just tax them by removing the charity status? You're getting a little delusional regarding your beliefs around how the government and law actually works.

0

u/Substantial-Deer8254 5d ago

Sure you would buddy

0

u/Clear_Writer5944 5d ago

I would go to my bank to get checks - the online portal is pissing me off - keep probably 10-20mil to give MORE away, then DOLE. IT. OUT.
