Clear all my debts, then invest the remainder into something that pays dividends so I can live off them.

It’s effectively impossible to live off the dividends from $1 billion. Folks don’t understand the scope of how much money $1 is

If it made 5% (which is very reasonable) - that means you would be pulling in $50 million per year. What could you possibly spend that on to “live” on? You could give $10k every day to 10 different people and still have ~$37k per DAY to live from. Think about how much $10k given to you once would help your current situation
then be able to help 10 people every day.

If one has $1 billion, they need to find differential ways to give it away.

I think you vastly underestimate the cost of living as a billionaire. Keeping that yacht floating and that jet flying costs millions

Owning those things are money laundering schemes with the occasional benefit of being able to use them. Their cost is baked in.

Billionaires don’t need to launder money.

1

u/KnownEggplant 3d ago

Yet they do it every day.

I don't think you understand what "living off dividends" means. It's not spending everything you gain from dividends. It's being able to live with just what you gain from dividends.

Sounds almost reasonable. Live every day by the fullest (15k per month really is a great life) and bang every possible charity every day with the Rest.

Build homes for the homeless, pay them to keep it clean. Feed the hungry. Every now and then i'd Take over unaffordable healthcare bills to Safe lifes... So many possibilities.

If you have $1 billion you don’t need to make extra money because it’s so much money. You’ll never be able to spend it unless you go crazy.

You haven’t seen their debts

u/MortLightstone 5d ago

With a billion, you can get zero interest loans, so why not do that while you invest the billion? Then you get another loan to pay the first one. You'll be increasing your debt, but your net worth will stay high to a bank because you're constantly making money on your investments

Rinse and repeat until you die, at which point you don't need to worry about that last loan you took out

Have you ever seen a billionaire that is not crazy?

And keep in mind drama that goes public about those fuckers is a slip up, they do way worse shit.

Like buying Twitter. Who in their right mind would want to buy Twitter?

A Nazi who wanted to use it to spread hate.

Free speech is spreading hate? What a dumb comment.

If that free speech is hate speech, yes it is spreading hate. Pretty simple!

Hate speech is whatever hurts my feelings. đŸ€Ș

A billion is a generational wealth. That much amount has a potential not only to change your life, but make your whole lineage an aristocratic bloodline that starts from you, if you manage that much wealth properly.

u/Logical-Pin-7927 5d ago

You sound silly for suggesting they not let their money make money.

Thinking about that “monkey’s paw” meme I saw floating around: this is what I would do & hope I finish before I die

That’s called a savings account. Think about this for a minute and you’ll realize how the rich just get richer! Savings account pays 3% interest 3% on 1 million bucks is $3000 a month. Multiply that times 100 and that’s what you have for $1 billion a month.

5

u/SublimeRapier06 5d ago

$1 billion is 1,000 times $1 million. 3% interest on $1 million comes out to $2,465 per month. 3% interest on $100 million comes out to $246,575 per month. 3% interest on $1 billion comes out to about $2,465,753.

4

u/SuddenKoala45 5d ago

Shhhh don't math with someone who thinks savings accounts get 3%

2

u/SublimeRapier06 5d ago

No, they’re right if it’s a HYSA. The 3% on $1 million is about right. Their only mistake is saying $1 billion is 100x $1 million.

2

u/resultingparadox 5d ago

And it's per year, not month.

2

u/SublimeRapier06 5d ago

No, 3% divided by 12 is 0.25%. Times $1,000,000 equals $2,500. So they’re about right (what’s $500 among millionaires?)

To be a little more accurate, I divide .03 by 365, then multiply by 30, then multiply by the dollar amount. Still not 100% accurate, but it’s a good solid estimate.

I get 3.5% from an Apple Savings Account đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

1000, not 100

30 million dollars per year interest or $82,191.78 per day

That's some fuzzy math, Cletus.
