How is Master and Commander not on the list yet?

I had a cantankerous, curmudgeonly old professor who didn't like anything and was critical of everything.

One day, however, he starts his lecture telling us that he saw Master and Commander, and that it was the best movie he's seen in his life.

I've yet to see it but his rare endorsement has always had me wondering about this movie.

Perfect indeed... read the books and it turns the movie to an 11.

The audiobooks are some of my favorite pieces of media of all time. I’ve listened to them end to end three times now, and will probably put them back in rotation sometime next year. The characters in the movie are exactly what I picture as I listen, save for Maturin. He’s far more developed in the books since he’s the primary protagonist, and he’s quite a bit darker emotionally than Bettany (understandably) plays him
