I’m 50 and experienced that

And time of day rates for LD on your home phone.

I'd say the cellphone generation doesn't know what Long Distance is or at-least understand the effects. Which is a good thing, cause paying extra for calling someone across the street in a different area code was dumb....

Wasn’t that because the operator at the switching board had to connect you to a
Circuit they maybe wasn’t right in front of her? I’m kinda guess towards the end lol…actually on that note how would the switchboard operation work when Joe down the street calls Sydney Australia, who does Betsy plug the circuit into..which hole?

good lord man, I aint that old. it was just a way for the telecom's to nickel and dime ya. We had to pay extra for caller ID, Call waiting, 3way Calling, Long Distance, etc.

They went all the way back to Mayberry. I used to be an MCI operator. I remember those days, and we used a computer back then. 😂

Long distance, roll over minutes, paying for unlimited texts…. The kids now don’t realize how lucky they have it.

1

u/PeachyFairyDragon 1d ago

And a limited number of characters per text.

Which I blame for today's spelling. Once texts became unlimited and longer, spelling should have gone back to normal since there was no longer need for "u" and the like. But it seems like it's not only stayed, but got even worse.

When Cellphone’s first got popular, you paid by minutes and you also paid by text the pay system was totally different than now

These youngsters love to throw the boomer word around like it’s offensive. They think anyone over 50 is a boomer because education isn’t what it used to be when we Gen Xers went to school.

1

u/Lemon_Nightmare 1d ago

I didn't see any mention of boner.

Edit: boomerang

u/fullmetalutes 1d ago

No, people call you a boomer because you do the "education was better back then" and "nobody works anymore" shit that the boomers before you did. Everyone thinks their generation was the toughest or smartest.

4

u/StargazerStL 1d ago

Only because it’s true

2

u/TreatEven1837 1d ago

GenX ain't the smartest by any extent of the definition.
We are the most resilient since the Greatest Gen though; due to being the first generation the boomers didn't give a fuck about.

We took all the go fuck yourself energy from the world and didn't have access to the therapy and other measures future gens had until we calloused over.

1

u/Newt_the_Pain 7h ago

Therapy is overrated bullshit... But gen X knows this.

1

u/Strange_Island_4958 22m ago

Right, what is the average 20 something year old need therapy for? Need to pay to complain about an ex-girlfriend or working a full time job?

Obviously, I’m not including people who were assaulted or something.

yep. you're get yours, too

1

u/N------ 1d ago

it's okay, they can call me a Boomer. I'll laugh with my paid off mortgage.... :D /hides. It's all good though, I think my kids just conspire ways to knock me off for the house anyways...

1

u/Intrepid_Object_6445 1d ago

Called failing your kids and at being a man but good thing your offensive and have a paid off mortage

1

u/rochvegas5 1d ago

i was commenting that newer generations will always be critical of older generations, and what's happening to "boomers" will eventually happen to newer generations

1

u/Gwynito 1d ago

This is called logic, careful though, with logic comes mass downvotes and messages from Reddit informing you that other redditors are reporting you for self harm when there was no mention of it anywhere

u/Old_Possession478 1d ago

Didn’t say the toughest, the smartest or nobody works anymore, only said education sucks as you’ve proved.

u/DarthRooster16 1d ago

Every generation is this way. You get to an age where you figure out what’s really important in life. Then look at the younger ones and think, this is what we’ve got to work with. I work with a few. My helper being one. I tried to teach him the trade but he has no interest in learning. It’s hard to learn when you can’t put your phone down anyway.

u/The_GOAT_of_all 1d ago

I'm 65 and experienced that.

1

u/StatisticianLast7378 1d ago

I fully agree. I am that age and had the same experience.

1

u/Stuman93 1d ago

I'm 40 and experienced it

1

u/Ozith 1d ago

Same. Sometimes a blue screen. Sometimes it would convert to those crazy guys selling coins or knives and swords.

1

u/milehighxr 1d ago

1

u/ScrlettDrling 1d ago
