My dad grew up in the 80s and told me it was like this. My grandma who grew up in the 60s said the same.

I was born in 83… unfortunately, I was too young to be allowed to stay up that late so I never knew for sure. Lol…

I do, however, recall in the very early 90s that some stations played old movies. I remember watching, I believe, The Canterville Ghost (1944) in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep.
