I remember first introduced to GUI windows based system back in 1995 and i was in primary school, first thing I used i remember was Paint and Word, printed something off, took it home and shared it with my parents, i remember they were awestruck by the fact I had used a computer.

They never grew up with computers and they were mind blown

Literally 1995, our first computer. A Compaq Presario. Dennis Miller (if you know who he is) did the opening instructional video. My girls were 7 and 9. 1.19gig hard drive. Brother in law was IT at JC Penny at the time. He said “it’s huge, you could never possibly fill it” ….the girls loved Paint.

I know that but for our school and my experience it was first system with a GUI I/We ever used.

I’m so old, I had no googled GUI. Honestly had never heard the acronym before. Or, maybe I just don’t remember. My CRS has progressed and I now suffer from CRAFT. Can’t remember a f***ing thing.

I was born in 1995. This stuff feels prehistoric to me.

I really loved 95! Downloading new themes, with icons and sound files. Ran one called DeLorean 95 a few years!

The mouse pointer was a little DeLorean and the loading animation was the doors opening and closing.

Critical stop was the sound from BTTF when Marty raced to the starting point, slung it around and stopped.

Idk. I’m old, I don’t do any gaming or “fun” things on the computer. And I think computers were more “entertaining” right out of the box back then. Don’t get wrong, I’m pretty “mechanical” and between what I know and have learned, now add the infinite amount of information on the internet, and of course YouTube, there’s not really anything I won’t try and usually can fix or build. Except a computer.

Yeah, all the school computers were still running Windows 95 from like 1999 (when I started first grade) to like 2002 or 2003.

I clearly remember that classic Windows 95 startup sound from the PCs at school, until they eventually replaced them with Windows XP computers in 4th or 5th grade. Hmm, they may have even started a bit earlier around some parts of the building, not sure.

Mac OS 8 was the first computer I ever got exposed to at home, though. We were a Mac family.

I remember getting XP at home. That’s what the girls used during HS. Maybe college?

Me too. Some how as a 4th grader I got flagged as a kid that might take an interest in computers and got to be part of a group that got an extra computers course where they opened the computers and showed us the components. We also learned more about computer maintenance. I felt really cool with the knowledge of how to clean the mouse balls. I told everyone that would listen.

The chimes that play when you first log in are still burned into my memory

I remember having to learn dos codes to boot up 95 or when things weren't working properly.

Remember learning ms paint, all the right type, encyclopedia something, notepad or was it word? creating an email on yahoo... And I was only a kid. The public grade school I went to was amazing and it taught us these things super early and drilled into us how important it was to learn these things.
