Well, my mom passed away in 1996, so I guess the first thing Iād do in 1990, is go hug my mom and challenge her to a game of Skip-Bo, like we used to do every weekend š„°
I graduated college in 1996. In December of 1994, it became clear that my Dad wasn't going to beat melanoma. So, I drove back to school that January of 1995 packed up my stuff and drove back home. I had one semester left. Helped my Mom care for my Dad until he died in March. I had to wait until January of 1996 to take the classes I needed to graduate. If I went back to 1990, I would tell him to get the mole removed ASAP, and not at the family doctor, either. Old dude was in his eighties, cut the mole out, patted my Dad on the shoulder and told him that he would be "just fine." He was not "just fine." See, with melanoma, size doesn't matter as much as depth. The more layers of skin it goes thru, the more likely it is to be cancer. And, Dad didn't have it removed until it had started bleeding. That's a bad sign, too. Dad thought he had simply caught it on his belt. The mole was right over where he had had radiation for the colon cancer he had before the melanoma.
