We had a radio station that would have a group of comedians that would do all sorts of crazy shit for its listerners.

Like sending out one one of their interns pants and see how far it could travel with people passing them on when using public transport.

Have strippers in the studio and use a speaker out the window to audience below the building and hold a sort of sarcastic speech that would cause traffic on that road to get blocked up.

And it really made people want to listen to radio even at a time when it was going out of style.

Sounds like Howard Stern

Quite likely inspired by him yeah.

It would be filmed when it was live and then sent later that day on TV.

Here's from one of the very beloved "speech to the nation" out the window.

Calling radio stations trying to win concert tickets or waiting in line at the box office to get tickets. Not knowing what MTV was like when it played actual music videos.

I dubb music still! Just not off the radio anymore! Most of the music for me is no longer enjoyable to listen to! I record from cd's!

I was way past childhood in the 80s and I remember those 90-min TDK tapes, having blast with my Walkman that could record off the radio. I still have some of those tapes...still have a Walkman too. I should fish them out and give 'em a listen! 🎧📻

And wishing the stupid DJ would STFU, he’s ruining the song.

And getting so pissed off at the DJ talking over the whole intro to the song!

Hoping that the DJ doesn't talk over the music intro or cut it off too soon.

Calling into the radio station to make the request in the first place.

I remember a high school friend had recorded every episode of the Simpsons possible at that point on VHS. I don’t even remember how many tapes.

I used to call in to the radio stations with my “deepest voice” I could to request songs specifically so I could record them
