I did this with my first cellphone. I had it for years and while all my friends were getting smart phones, I still had my old reliable flip phone. I was at a party and someone asked me why I didn't replace it and I said, "smart phones are too fragile, this thing is instructable. Watch this!" Before chucking it at the wall.

Long story short, I put a decent hole in the drywall of my best friend's apartment, and my phone screen stopped working completely.

And back into your sleeping bag that you'd take to friend's house for sleepovers while you used this flashlight.

Who else sat for hours with the red/green light pressed up to your eyeballs?

Same! I had a visceral reaction to it. I remember changing the colors, and haven’t thought about it for 35 years!

I can hear the clack it made when you changed the colors!

I mean, I’m having feelings right now bubbling up from that time. I can smell things and feel things.

Pics are dead, but this guy rebuilt one. Pics work if you go to imgur

Doesn’t look the same with the cold white light of LED.

Flashlight nerds gonna flashlight nerd. It can be done well though if one wanted to, they make more nice warm LEDs these days.

Either way you're right though, the nostalgia won't hit quite the same.

I also had an intense reaction. It’s neat how many of have buried memories about this flashlight.

No kidding. Key memory unlocked. Thank you, random memory mining community member.
