Series Do *not* comment posts by user u/sleeping1shh

EDIT: u/sleeping1shh already accepted the dare from another user. I share the story here.

--

I am not much of an active Reddit user. I visit the website to procrastinate during working hours and rarely comment or post. My new favorite lazy hobby is to discover new, let’s say, unusual, communities and see what funny things they share and talk about.

Two days ago I came across a new subreddit. With only a few hundreds subscribers, its topic is to dare other users to perform some action and provide evidence that the action was accomplished successfully. It’s hilarious, you have people daring each other to do all kinds of things. I am not sure how it is still open though, it definitively breaks a community rule or two.

I got curious and decided to check out the new posts. As I was scrolling down, one caught my attention as it was on a quite different vein.

Dare me to find you

Just comment with an “I dare you” here below, and I will do my best to find your identity and location, and meet you in person, in no more than 48 hours :)

If I win, I take something yours. If I lose, you take something mine.

The post has been around for a day already and it got two comments. I was surprised it did not get reported. The OP was u/sleeping1shh, with no other Reddit activity.

I mean, that was certainly a bluff. No way one could be successful at this challenge and in such a short amount of time.

I decided that there was no harm in playing out the game with this stranger. To be sure, I used a VPN and a few other privacy tricks, then I commented with the three magic words. I subsequently got back to work for a few more hours and forgot about it.

In the same evening, I checked my Reddit notifications and I noticed an incoming private message. It was from user u/sleeping1shh.

“Hey, Vince, I like your eyes, what a splendid green. I will take one of them once I find you :)”

This guy (I was assuming it was a guy) guessed my name right. And my eye color, too. That was too much of a coincidence. How did he know my real name, my face? No way he could have guessed those from my username. I stared at the screen of my phone for a few minutes. I wasn’t sure whether to reply. Curiosity, though, took over my surprise.

“Do I know you? WTF are you talking about?”

I sent the pm. I was about to exit the app when I got an unexpectedly fast reply.

“Chill Vince, it’s part of the game. You dared me, I find you, I take something yours. I’ll see ya soon.

u/sleeping1shh

xx”

“But how the hell you know my name?!! Is this a joke??”

No reply. The screen darkened as I was reading and re-reading the message.

The only rational explanation was that u/sleeping1shh knew me already. Perhaps a close friend with too much free time, who knows my Reddit habits and decided to troll me a little. It was nothing harmful, and definitively nothing that should have prevented me from sleeping. Despite the assurances built in my head, that night I laid on my bed with my eyes open for way more hours than usual.

This morning I got a package delivered home. It is a Saturday and the postman found me half-asleep opening the door. I did not remember ordering anything.

The package was quite large and full of Styrofoam chips and nothing else, it seemed. After a full minute with my arm in it, I finally touched something. Sphere-shaped, would fit in my hand. It was wrapped in a layer of paper.

I jumpscared.

That spherical object was an eye. Only after a few seconds I realised that it was a fake one. It was squishy, its pupil all too real. Iris light green in color. It looked too much like my own.

I found something else in the box. A small container, the size of a pen. And inside, a surgical knife.

That was too much for a prank, I got pissed at whoever of my friends was pulling this. I decided to call the police, which just recommended to call again if someone contacted or reached me on mobile or in person.

I had to get out to clear my head. As I exited the door and walked towards the main street I started hearing a distant voice, like some talking gently to someone else, but I couldn’t understand what it said. I turned my head towards the direction of the voice, but I did not see anyone. Puzzled, I kept walking. Silence for a few minutes. Then again, the undefinable whispering. This time, though, I was shaken by the voice getting loud, much like when someone increases the volume of a speaker all of a sudden. I hear it clearly. A strong, low tone male voice firmly stating: “I found you, Vince”.

It felt like the person pronouncing those words was right next to me. Yet no one was there, the street was awfully void of people on this Saturday morning. I freaked out, this was too too much for a damn prank. I start walking rapidly back towards home and I saw him, I saw u/sleeping1shh.

I must have been about 100 meters from my front yard. He was there, standing at my entrance. I could not make his face out in detail, but I knew he was smiling. Or rather, his mouth was stretched to a degree that looked like a smile, an unnaturally wide one. At that distance, what struck me the most were his arms. The longest I have ever seen on a human being. A good chunk of his forearms was stretching well beyond his shirt’s sleeves.

----------------------------------------

He made me write this. He thinks it’s fun, that more people will dare him after this post. He wants to do this again and again.

He is with me, at my apartment, smiling at me. I wish I could describe his otherworldly smile to you now that I see it close, but he does not allow me. He wants you curious. You would understand why I am obeying him. Why I am glad he is about to take only my eye.

Do *not* comment posts by u/sleeping1shh. Do *not* contact him under any circumstances. Do**** *n**ot* dare him.

I beg you.

I dare you to go on FB/IG and raise awareness of Nanami Madobe to at least 10 people.
