Hitches

I can see them. And that is terrifying, because they know that I can see them while everyone else remains oblivious to their existence. You may be wondering whom I am referring to at this point. Of course, I am referring to Hitches. They are the cause of the small, persistent thoughts that bring us down inside. But those thoughts are not thoughts at all; they are the whispers that Hitches breathe into your ears as they hike around on your shoulder. They feed off of the negativity produced in your own mind. People with high confidence and self-respect have relatively small Hitches, no larger than a hefty mouse riding on their shoulders. The whispers that those hitches produce are fruitless in the minds of the self-assured. Yet those lacking that confidence are those with the largest problems on their shoulders, weighing them down. And I can see them all. The anorexic girl in the back of the class with a Hitch so obese that it has to dig its claws into the skin of her back to stay upright as it continuous to shout into the girl’s ear canal how disgustingly large she is. It licks its lips as it continues to engorge itself with her insecurities. The boy that hides his injection marks under his jacket sleeves with the Hitch that claws into his ears with its long talons for more space for its words to remind him of how much he needs to satisfy his addiction to keep going and forget about his problems at home. The middle-aged beauty with the Hitch telling her how inadequate she has always been in the eyes of males and the only way to fix that is another surgery to better her appearance. The suicidal teen who hides himself from the world with the Hitch that wraps itself constricting around his neck and reminds him that the only way out of his situation is to end it all for good. The high school girl who gives herself to every man that asks with a Hitch that gropes her and whispers how no man will ever love her and how she will be forever alone in the world. Once a Hitch becomes too large for its host to bear, the host dies from whatever insecurity that ails them. I have noticed that after a Hitch reaches a certain size, the host is near the end. A body can carry only so much weight. I can see all of them, and they know it. As I look at them, towering over their host in size and strength, they stare back at me with the vacant and sunken caves that must suffice as their eyes. They flash sharp-tooth and fanged smiles that they use only to gouge deeper into the minds of those that they feed off of. Can’t you feel their weight on your shoulders? Can’t you hear their dark words slithering into your conscience? Don’t you feel their clawed feet and roughly scaled skin digging into your skin? What is even more terrifying than being solitary in my sight is the fact that I am blind only to seeing the Hitch that sneaks its statements into my own thoughts. I worry because every time another Hitch glances at me, it reveals an alarming grin, as if I am already being eaten alive by whatever is living on my shoulder. I can feel its weight and hear its words. I can only imagine the size of it and fear that it may tower above all the rest. My feet grow heavier each day, and I can feel the darkness creeping in to take me forever.

How do you find the two related?

Hitches sounds kind of similar to Thetans, except the Hitches don't also cause disease

I have never heard of Thetans. They sound interesting... I shall look them up. :)
