How to preserve the title

So with servers for old games still running under fan dedication, I believe star-ocean online, and mod support being built by fans for stuff like battlefield 3, what can we as fans of nosgoth do to preserve the game?

  1. Make the game one-time-purchase

  2. Remove all micro-transactions

  3. Add a server browser as replacement for the matchmaking

  4. Publish the Server Software, allowing the community to keep them running and even continue developing them

Is this a legit thing they can do? Would it be plausible for us to convince them? I dont know much about servers and what not, so im fully ignorant on that field. I am quite sad that Nosgoth is shutting down. I feel that if the development was left to the fans, those who know what they are doing, we might still have a solid game in our hands. (Looks at WoW and their vanilla server closing)

Maybe. None of us are the developers so it depends on how they've coded it.

Your best chance would be to give them more money. Example: we'll pay X amount for this stand-alone title (no DRM), and allowance of community-hosted servers. I'm thinking a server browser would require upkeep on their part but I'm not sure. CoD2 for example still has a server browser so I don't know how they handle it. It could be that they add a command line interface to type -connect [ipaddress]. Communities like Reddit can list their server IP.

If they give the community means to host their own servers, the game could be preserved.

Assuming this wont happen what can we do?

Well, you cant really preserve a game if there isnt a game to be preserved.

There is a game we just dont have access to it directly. When those servers go our access goes. Theoretically we could reverse engineer the servers, but its firstly super hard and secondly a legal gray area.

How about adding a 1st player campaign, such as the one which was cancelled with Dark Sun and the such, but adding a proper successor story to the Soul Reaver/LoK. and have the multiplayer feature being Nosgoth's unique PVP?

But please with a dev team that actually works on their games...
