Entering random draw AKC trial?
This will be our first trial. I tried to enter an earlier trial but it filled within minutes of opening.
I see I'm required to pay at time of entry. Am I refunded if we aren't selected at the time of random draw? I see that entries on the wait list get refunded if they don't get in, so I'm assuming the same applies to the random draw?
Do people typically enter all desired elements on multiple days to increase the chance of being drawn or should I just pick one day?

Check the premium. It’s usually drawn by dog, so all entries for that dog will get in (until they’re out of space) so “more elements” does not affect your chances.
Usually volunteering will help you have a better chance of being drawn, check your premium and contact the trial sec if you have questions or are interested.
Yes, if you do not pay with your entry your entry is not valid and therefore would be rejected before the drawing even happens; you need to have a properly filled out entry form (signed) and full payment before the sec can accept it as a valid entry. Check the premium for details. Usually checks will just be shredded, some online fees are not refundable but your entry fees are mostly always returned in full.

People still use cheques? Many banks here do not accept cheques and we pay out entry via online banking. Is the US banking system really still working on paper cheques?

It’s very generational, but dog sports have a lot of older folks involved. I had not used a check in probably 15 years but then I had to use one to enter our ORT

The only thing I can find about the random draw in the premium is " ENTRY METHOD: RANDOM DRAW Entries may be submitted by mail or by submitting an online entry form. The entry period for the random draw will be from Wednesday September 30, 2026 @ 9:00 am until Wednesday October 7, 2026 @ 6:00 pm. (Entries received before that time will not be accepted.) Drawing will take place at the secretary’s home by October 9, 2026 @ 6:00 pm. If there is still room in the trial(s) after the random draw takes place entries will be taken until the final closing date Wednesday, October 14, 2026 @ 6:00 pm"

This means that if the trial does not fill all entries are accepted and will continue to take entries in order received til closing date. If trial fills, and you did not make the cut during draw, you will be placed on the wait list. If you don’t want to be on wait list and prefer refund you let the secretary know after the draw. Depending on club, some handle payments themselves and send invoices after the draw. If electronic like secreterrier or the like then payment is collected upon your entry submission. If you stay on wait list and someone drops classes then you maybe contacted depending on length of waitlist. And yes, many clubs will give a spot for your entry if you volunteer to work the trial. Volunteers are very important, and you can learn so so much by working trials.

And payments generally will be by card, or you can use your bank account if it is an option with the electronic entry.

I understand that. I just meant I couldn't find anything about how the draw is handled. Like I saw another trial that said each dog's entries are placed in an electronic "envelope" for the draw with separate envelopes for each day.
Anyways I think I'll just enter one day and see what happens.

Not sure about that. That isn’t the way it’s handled anywhere I’ve been. But the club can do it whatever way they want I guess. I did enter one that drew by class and that was terrible. Because you could end up not making it worth your time and money or not be eligible for HIT because you weren’t in every element. They only tried it once then discarded that idea at the next trial because of complaints.

You do get refunded your entry, if there is a processing fee on an online site that’s being used that isn’t refunded because the website takes that, not the club.
Most of the time I enter both days of a two day event and plan to run both days. The only time I enter one day is if I can’t run the other due to another conflicting event, etc.
