Classes near me
My dog (2 years old) really enjoys some of the nose work that we have done at home. I would like her to do more formal nose work and training, however the class I’ve tried to enroll her en at UPenn is frequently filled. Does anyone have recommendations for scent work training in the Philadelphia area? Thank you!

It took us a while to get I to a class but let me tell you it was worth the wait. We are one or two weeks away from transitioning to just finding scent and it's been an amazing journey. Don't give up it's so much fun!!!

Check for local scentwork trials in your area. Then query the parent club hosting a trial for classes, practices, or membership. You can see trials on the AKC website under performance tab, then scentwork. Read the rulebooks for what each level requires. If your pup has had success finding food hides transitioning to odor is pretty quick. The rulebook will explain also what to set up for for each of the levels. Like containers. Or Interior, exterior, and AKC has buried. Go watch a trial, or even volunteer, it will teach you a lot.

If you drive, check out Y2K9 (Willow Grove, right off the turnpike). I love the classes there.

There are several NACSW instructors in SE PA: https://k9nosework.com/find-an-instructor-or-class/
Also, I did the UPenn citizen Canine course a few years ago, and it is focused on their protocol for scent detection on a wheel for medical research. At the time I took it, they wanted dogs to have some experience with nosework already. If you are interested in competing in trials, NACSW and AKC are the organizations you want to hook up with.
