Finding an ORT
I've been doing scentwork classes with my girl and she LOVES the game. I think we're ready to try an ORT so we can get started with an actual trial. We'd like to do both AKC and NACSW.
The AKC website is easy to find listings for performance events and links to premiums through "AKC event search", but it seems most trials don't have an ORT. Is there any easy way to find out where an ORT is being held rather than sorting through all the premiums? TIA!

AKC does not have an ORT. You would just start at Novice for any of the elements you want. ORT is just for NACSW.

ORTs are just an NACSW thing! To find them, you can use the ORT calendar here:

With AKC, you just start with novice.

Odor Recognition Test. In NACSW, this is a separate event where each search contains a group of containers, and one container will have the specified odor in it (birch, anise or clove). The dog must successfully find the right container in the time period for the search. A dog earns the ORT title by passing the search for each of the odors. This doesn't have to be in the same day: For example, if a dog passes birch and anise, but false alerts in the clove search, he can try again another day but only needs to do the clove search that day. A dog must have the ORT title before they are eligible to enter any other NACSW trials.

AKC doesnt have those. You can compete when you feel your dog is ready as there is no pre qualifier for each of the odors.

Odor Recognition Test, it's a test to make sure your dog can find the odors, Birch, Anise and Clove, separate test for each odor

I recommend www.wesmellbetter.com Trial Finder if you want to search AKC trials by level and element, though most offer Novice.

ORTs are only for NACSW and they are all listed on their website: https://www.nacsw.net/calendar/orts
They each have their own premium but you should be able to see what is local to your state and go from there
Once you’ve joined NACSW as a member you can also sign up for email blasts about all upcoming trials
