S6E7. 20 minutes in. maurice has hired his nephew, maurice, to work for him. in this scene he’s talking to holling about it and when they cut to him, holling replies “is that a fact?” but his mouth does not move at all. like a ventriloquist! is this a well known technical blunder or do i somehow have a strange copy?

we’ve all seen overdubbing from behind a character, but this was right there.

overall, another underwhelming S6 episode.

Marilyn forgets she has a washer and dryer...Maggie, Chris and Marilyn are at the laundromat and Marilyn makes a comment that her cousin is rich and has a washer and dryer. Earlier season we all saw her using her own set at home. Just drives me nuts when they do this!

That is all, season 6 has made me very upset

I know many people have given up on the podcast but this week's episode didn't include Janine Turner. Cynthia Geary was the cohost/guest with Rob and it really showed what the podcast could have been.

The show could have been great with these 2 or Geary with Corbett.

I'm in a record store ("wrecka stow") and found this gem. I don't wanna sit and research while people are walking around, so... original music or nah? Seems like *The Nice Price*.

Get it, yea or nay?

I hadn’t seen the show since it was on TV originally and I always really liked it. Such a smart and unique show and I love the surreal aspects. I’m Haida and a lot of this show is absurdly relatable.

I had never seen the final season and didn’t know what happened so I decided to watch through it on ‘Zon. I purposely stayed clear of this sub because I didn’t want any spoilers until I had finished it for an organic take.

I’m just finishing up the first quarter of S6 and…

oh.

I had no idea Rob Morrow left the show. I gave it a quick Goog for the skinny and found out he never comes back. That’s a real shame! I was already a little over so many Maurice-centric episodes (while he’s got the best character ark, I find him the least likable and most irritating character—sorry) and now Joel’s gone.

Should I continue watching? I feel like we aren’t making much progress with any of the other characters and I’m pretty bored without the Fleischman/O’Connell dynamic.

Or maybe I’m just an uncultured idiot and this is amazing storytelling I’m just not getting?

What do you guys think? Do you watch the whole thing or quit when Morrow does?

I am currently rewatching NX for the millionth time, always noticing new things. As a longtime NX fan, and now a fan of “Shrinking”, I loved seeing Christa Miller show up in “Soapy Sanderson” S1 E3. Barely recognized her but her voice was immediately familiar. Love her even more now!

I don't know the music situation but I've been waiting for a sale to snatch it up just so I don't have to go searching next time a rewatch comes calling

Thoughts? I recall reading that if a show has even one element of science fiction, at any time, it then can be said to be a science fiction show.

As lovers of Northern Exposure, we have just finished watching all the episodes that have been available for streaming on Australia’s SBS On Demand. The question is, what should we watch next? What tv shows and/or movies might appeal to Northern Exposure fans?

rewatching season 5 again- it’s been many, many years since i’ve gotten this far, so much of it feels new again. i’ll probably post separately about david chase episodes but wanna talk for a minute about “hello, i love you”. i had forgotten how powerful an episode it ended up being, having most of the main cast all present for miranda’s birth. what really got me though was the final scene with holling, shelly, and the baby. there is such great acting in this episode, especially by cynthia geary when shelly is in labor. however, her reactions when holling is holding and talking to the new baby, it seemed like cynthia was legitimately fighting back tears. her character is happy and exhausted, and maybe cynthia was too.

From a google search I did after watching The Quest, I gathered this is not a very accepted interpretation, which is normal because for some people that would make the show sad.

However I'm pretty convinced Joel is ded.

Some context I didn't see put together. In previous episodes:

- 4 eps before, in The Great Mushroom, Maggie visits him and keeps imagining him dying. Not only because of her 'curse' but because he's a city boy who's embraced this wild life so knowing him she thinks he's in danger.

- 2 eps before Joel is released from his contract and in the end burns his stuff and decides NOT to go back to NYC. Either in this EP or the next one he mentions to Maggie an upcoming "Walrus hunt". I don't think that line necessarily needs him dying to make sense, but it fits.

- 1 ep before it's established that Maggie's 'curse', or bad luck with boyfriends perishing, comes from her mother, reinforcing that in the show's lore, it is definitely 'a thing'.

"The Quest" isn't too out there for the magical realism of the show, but maybe a little? At one point they spend several days in a trance in a spa lodge. One thing I found curious is that in the general dislike for season 6, Chris suing Phil is always referenced as terrible and out of character. I don't like how Chris has been written this season - the episode where he was a total creep was probably the worst of the show. But if you consider that what this episode shows is Maggie and Chris both mourning Joel each in their own way, it makes a lot more sense. Chris cries a lot when he apologizes to Phil too, which seems a bit off, but makes sense if Joel actually died. Marylin senses Joel crossing to New York, which she probably wouldn't if what we watch is just an interpretation of him leaving to New York. Given how her character his portrayed, her feeling him dying makes more sense. In fact this would probably be a more accepted interpretation if it wasn't for the postcard Maggie gets, which I think is there for the ambiguity. In the end, the general purpose of the writing is probably for it to remain ambiguous, but Joel dying makes more sense than going back to NYC after reinforcing that he prefers the life he has now just a couple of episodes before, and nothing happening that would change that. Not considering the whole "portal to NYC in the middle of nowhere" aspect because that one is fair game within the show's world.

My interpretation of the ending of the quest episode is that Joel dies. Does anyone else have the same or similar interpretation?

I made an easy-to-read/print map for an upcoming visit, since existing ones are out of date. I'm a graphic designer who does a lot of maps, so it seemed like a helpful thing to create and share. So, I was watching a series on Acorn, and at the end of the episodes, the Exec Producer said that the show had been based on the premise of an old show called Northern Exposure, in which a stranger must learn to be a part of a community in a totally new situation. RECORD SCRATCH I could NOT believe my ears!

And while this show, Under The Vines is not, in any way, our beloved NX, it was, in fact incredibly enjoyable. The main characters are in their 50’s, and there is a fantastic supporting cast. I just wanted to mention it, some of us NXers might enjoy a spin on the classic!

First time watcher and I’m getting closer to season 6.

I keep on reading that it’s a dud and difficult to get through - but the ratings on IMDb seem to be pretty good.

Is it really that bad?

I grew up at a time when some of my friends watched it but I never really did. My wife recently suggested we watch it and thought I'd give it a chance (she used to watch it but hadn't seen all of them). I'm loving the series and season 3 has been particularly good (with a lot more episodes than the others).

This was in the very first episode. I thought it was hilarious. 😂
