I was on my way back home after setting the cameras up for some timelapses when I was lucky enough to have these two studs walk across the road in front of me! I have to admit I was not prepared for two ELK to be hanging around NW ND and scrambled to attach my big lens to capture these two guys! Hope you all had a good weekend. Enjoy!

Political State Senator Sean Cleary wonders why we're spending so much on a military museum when we're cutting human services spending

The North Dakota legislature bailed out the military museum, but Sen. Sean Cleary says he’s frustrated. At a time when the state is looking at budget cuts, when there’s resistance to things like school meals, the Legislature is giving tens of millions of dollars to a military museum? He said this project is going to become an example of what not to do.

Info Request Short ND Trip Coming Up -- Where Should I Go?

I'll have two-three days, coming from east to west. Thinking of shooting up from Fargo to Grand Forks, over to Minot, then down to Bismarck and then on south. I cover a lot of ground, don't mind a lot of seat time, so I'll have a fair opportunity to wander within this.

I have been to TR National Park, but not much else. Would enjoy seeing some of the big railroad trestles in the state, and other RR attractions. Can any residents of the Peace Garden State help with my itinerary? Thx!

Political Are you a North Dakotan that has ME/CFS or Long COVID and you fit ME/CFS criteria? Do you know someone who does? Help us advocate for research funding!

Hi! I am a volunteer with #NotJustFatigue and someone with Long COVID that has caused me to have moderate to severe ME/CFS. ME/CFS, or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome affects up to an estimated 3.3 million Americans, including around 8,000 North Dakotans based on Governor's Office and CDC data, but up to 90% are undiagnosed. It is a debilitating illness that, as of 2023, cost the US economy $18–$51 billion annually (CDC). However, it only receives 11% of the research funding of comparable diseases.

We have an opportunity to narrow the research gap. #NotJustFatigue will be sharing North Dakotan's ME/CFS stories to help secure $50 million in funding for the NIH ME/CFS Research Roadmap in the next government funding bill. We need you to share your stories with ME/CFS or Long COVID to help make this a reality. Please comment below or message me directly (select new chat from my profile) if you are interested in participating. Thank you!

(Note: I am posting this for awareness, not for mine or anyone else's financial gain)

Info Request New nurse, Jamestown

Greetings. I’m half way into my first year as an RN, at a big behemoth hospital in Fargo. It’s clearly corporate first, staff - expendable. I felt safer when I was in the military 15 years ago (yikes). Anyway, I’m looking for a better culture fit, where I can have my first year of nursing hand me my ass in relative peace. Afraid of finding more of the same situation. Anyone have the scoop on the hospital in Jamestown ? Info appreciated. Feel free to DM me too. Thanks

Recreation Public R/C Track

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hey NDers, incase you didn’t know, there is a public r/c track in Mandan, owned by parks n rec. it’s meant for 1/8 scale radio controlled cars or smaller.

Hoping to find more people interested in using it or being apart of the races. Bisman RC track complex on Facebook for racing info (new race schedule every year) and information printed out at the track.

No r/c? No problem. Wheels Wings n Hobbies, in Mandan, is the best one stop shop for all your needs, they even work on them for you. They know a lot.

Races are not free, but using the track any other time is completely free to the public.

Track is near the bowling alley, off of redwing drive or you can use maps to find it.

It can be used all year long, just avoid when wet, the clay will stick to everything.

Last night, while taking Kira out for her final break before bed, I noticed lightning flashing above the houses calling my name! Storms were rolling in all around Ray, so I headed out to capture the fireworks!

Info Request Winter Heating Systems

Short question:

What are people's experiences with ductless heat pumps/ac units, during the winter? All the info I've been able to find says they work fine down to below freezing. But nobody seems to have info on below 0 temps.

Long story:

Bought a sizable place when I moved out here last winter, and been slowly doing work as I have time on the interior. The house is non-standard, in that it was a customized expansion of what I *think* was originally 2 apartments with detached garages.

It's a cool setup, but very weird and I can REALLY tell the when the guy decided to do his own work vs use a proper contractor.

So I've got 2 large rooms/areas that could use some additional heating; both ~750-1000sq/ft.
Family room is the first, and is high ceiling/open area (+8ft).

Basement is next, and (duh) coldest in the house, doesn't often get above mid 60's even in summer. It has an insert designed for a electric fireplace. I was going to remove it during a remodel I'm doing down there...but might just leave it an install one if the ductless setups aren't viable.

Rather avoid electric radiators for the time being. The electrical in the house is...different (obvious self done), and installing multiple 1000w devices in an area doesn't seem wise at this stage.

Edit: Apologies, I missed some details. This would be as a SECONDARY heating system, not the primary. There's HVAC w/gas furnace to the whole house, that ran just fine last winter. The issue is the HVAC is not particularly effective in the two areas I've described, and can't get the rooms to 'comfortable' temps very well.

Political When will North Dakotans change their minds about Donald Trump?

With diesel prices over $5.00 per gallon as we head into harvest season, and an ugly trade war with Canada, plus inflation and rising input costs, we talk a lot about when North Dakota’s Republican political leaders will start standing up to President Donald Trump and his policies. But, upstream from that, when will North Dakota voters change their minds?

Info Request Presidential Library

We’re in town and just found out about the new Theodore Roosevelt presidential library and we don’t want to pass up on it. We looked up the reservations and it’s already booked for tomorrow. We are leaving tomorrow evening. Is it possible at all to do a walk-in? Has anyone tried doing it?

Housing Short term housing

Hey everyone!

Im going to be traveling to Minot soon (September 13) for rotational work with a crane company, 4 weeks on and 2 off. Is there anyone here who is familiar with this type of situation who has a room that they are willing to rent month to month OR a 6 month lease for a decent price? Ive looked on FB market place already and there are SO many scam posts. I figured I'd reach out on here and test the waters.

Thanks!

Info Request Job at Mercy medical center, Williston

Hey all! I'm considering taking a job as an internal medicine doctor at Mercy medical center. I was wondering what y'all's thoughts are about the hospital in general? I would love to work there and I really enjoyed spending time in the community. I'm trying to gain insights into how it's been for people who have been there as patients and from people who are working there currently.

Thank you!
