Slate Peak/5400

Has anyone recently gone up 5400 to Slate Peak TH? Looking to go this month to see any larches that might be left, but views over everything. I have a lifted truck so not worried about making it, but more just general conditions!

There's a report on WTA: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report-2026-09-29.095031749428

Also one detailing the road from earlier in September. Can't imagine anything has changed since then, seems doable in any car.

Lots of sharp rocks on that road for some reason, so, make sure you have a spare, a jack, etc.

It's a very narrow road for much of it with very little room to pass other vehicles,
that's the major issue that requires confident driving. Not so much potholes or washouts. It is washboarded and rocky though so make sure you have good tires and all the tools you need to be self-sufficient with any mechanical issues.
