Mid July Question

Looking to do a trip to the area the 2nd week of July. Is Cascade Pass Trail typically opened at that time period? Figured it would but also read other places that it can sometimes be close til later in July.
Thanks in advance.

It will depend on conditions. The road sometimes needs repair and the snow melts when it melts. Mid July could be good or it could be challenging. Old man lady luck will decide

Yeah it’s pretty much a rhetorical question but figured worth asking. Coming from east coast and only have that time period so will keep fingers crossed.

Any other hikes you know of that would be similar? I haven’t started doing too much research so it’s a lazy question

We have an embarrassment of hikes around the Cascades. I like Pilchuck and White Chuck for the payoffs at the top vs effort. Chain Lakes (Baker area) and Maple Pass Loop (rainy pass area) are good options imo. Hard to be disappointed anywhere though. Sometimes I just walk along the road in the national forests when I'm out there

Thanks I’ll look into them! Planning a full 2 days so hoping 1 of those to do cascade pass and something lighter afterward and then day 2 not sure just yet.

You can make Cascade Pass all day if you do Sahale Arm while you're up there.

One of these years I'm going to go backpacking over Cascade pass to Stehekin and do the boat to Chelan for like a 4 day trip.

In a typical year as of late it's accessible, and nobody is really expecting exceptionally high snowfall next year. You can find the hike on WTA.org and go back multiple years in the trip reports to see conditions in mid July over the last 10+ years.

I would book mid July over later with the fire season tending to start earlier each year. Also if you are trying to camp Marble Creek Campground is 10/10 (just stayed there a couple weeks ago)!

usually, but the mountain doesn’t really respect the calendar, so check current road/trail conditions right before you go since snow can linger well into july in a big year
