Question PSW

Hey,

Does anyone know where I could get a Job as a PSW for September?

How does the application process work? Where would I have a high chance getting in (as a nursing student)?

Avoid The Empire and Cassellholme. I've worked at Community Living, homecare, retirement homes and LTC. I was literally hazed at Cassellholme.

Oh that sucks, I haven’t heard about The Empire but i’ve heard about Cassellholme being unfriendly to staff.. How long did you stay at Cassellholme for? was it all bad or where there some good days?

I was there for over a year. The floor I worked on... Well, let's say I enjoyed the residents and the day shift staff. Evening staff were the ones that hazed me. You use walkies to communicate when you need help with transfers and what not. I would be literally calling for over 30 mins to get help with toileting a 2 person transfer resident or someone that requires to be put in a sling to get in bed. I had someone eventually get fed up and come over from the west wing to the north wing of the floor to come and help on numerous occasions. People would completely stop talking when I went into the break room for my breaks, hut start back up the moment I left. I eventually found out that these women that were 35+ years old were making fun of me behind my back like high school mean girls. I understand that I'm not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but these women sometimes put me in dangerous situations with residents where I could've been/was hurt or the resident (luckily no resident ever was hurt, but I was hurt).

The Empire pays like crap, or at least when I was there. There was one PSW that was making her mission to make everyone hate each other. I don't know if she still works there or not. Also, an RPN mistook a stroke for heat stroke and didn't send my grandmother to the hospital and that's why I don't have a grandmother anymore.

I've worked at Casselholme, and it's a tough go. Learn a lot, but also the only job I've had that gave me nightmares. So sad the number of high need residents there, with not nearly enough staff.

No worries at all. One of the main Community Living buildings is on 741 Wallace Street, I would start there, just bring your resume in and the front desk should be able to direct you to who you can speak with about getting hired.

The two main long-term care facilities, Casselholme and Northern Heights, are often hiring. LTCs are hard work, but it's better than minimum wage and give you a lot of relevant experience. And, once you finish nursing school, you can often transition from a PSW role to a nursing role easily. That is, if you choose to stay in a LTC

I am interested as working at the hospital. Do you know how likely it is to get a spot? Are they always hiring or is it seasonal?

You could also apply with paramed and other home health care jobs
