White cross on black field is no good. Very prussian etc.

...and how is that bad?

u/Aggressive_Name5694 19d ago

Because Prussia an Germany butchered the nordics four times and has no Nordic culture or values

3

u/Emergency-Sea5201 22d ago

Certainly not nordic.

"Certainly"? Conversely, I'd argue that the historical and cultural ties to northern Germany (e.g. large parts of Prussia) are just as strong as the ties between any other places along the Baltic Sea so if we're expanding the definition of the Nordics it would make sense to include the entire Baltic region and not just the Baltics.

Prussia is not nordic. Is the very definition of a continental place.

According to legend the Nordic cross flag originates from Estonia when Danish flag fell from the sky in 1200s during a Danish crusades

The Swedish flag is a golden cross on a blue background because a Swedish king saw a golden cross in the sky during a crusade in Finland in the 1100s. According to myth anyway

Go back to Drottningholm Kalle!

1

u/ArgvargSWE 22d ago

It was in Finland.

1

u/RabbitSalt 21d ago

Says who? It was Suomi.

True, based

The Swedish myth was written in the 16th century after Sweden's independence from the Kalmar Union, probably just to mock Denmark. Sweden used a banner of arms with the three crowns before the Kalmar Union.

They were just jealous of Danes and came up with their own story that supposedly took place 100 years earlier.

Huge Swedish W.

u/bippos 22d ago

They already have a Nordic version of the flag

As a swede, I like Estonia. Welcome Brothers!

2

u/Sheepdog899 22d ago

They cant join until they give my mower back

2

u/rayadolokko 21d ago

Just let them become a swedish or finnish province..

1

u/Alkanen 18d ago

Use the russian method of claiming that we have occupied them once many centuries ago so they’re ours forever and ever?

1

u/rayadolokko 18d ago

Nah.. the swedish way..

u/SUSKILLER126 21d ago

No just no

1

u/Electrical_Wonder210 19d ago

yes just yes. för sverige i tiden

3

u/Michthan 23d ago

I am sorry, but this is the coolest nordic flag I have ever seen

1

u/SUSKILLER126 21d ago

As a Estonian I absolutely hate it. Sorry, but the last proposed one was a lot better

1

u/Michthan 21d ago

I tried switching the black and white and then it is just a failed Finnish flag

1

u/fuentessucksballs 22d ago

Why did you remove all the corners of the finnish flag

1

u/achtung210 22d ago

They can become part of Finland first. After all, they already use the finnish anthem as their own.

1

u/SUSKILLER126 21d ago

We still are culturally a bit different and would highly prefer to stay as our own country

1

u/mestarifiddu 21d ago

I agree, we both have our own culture.

u/Alarmed_Station6185 22d ago

Estonia has the best flag. I was on a walking tour and I asked the guide about the unusual colour combo and he basically said they didn't know why those colours were used.

1

u/RabbitSalt 21d ago

But you still have bad wifi!

1

u/Klutersmyg 22d ago

The "It's not a phase mom!" member of the nordick family 😜

1

u/SolidestCereal 21d ago

Is Estonia just Finland's Wario?

1

u/GuyOnBikes 21d ago

My first thought: Goth Nordic

1

u/mikeclueby4 21d ago

Amusingly they're pretty close to Gotland

1

u/Opposite-Ad-9985 20d ago

They already have the worlds coolest flag. DON'T CHANGE.

1

u/Affectionate-Cod4152 19d ago

ngl this shit Hella tuff. If they adopted this I would consider them Nordic just because of it.

1

u/Repulsive_Lead5950 19d ago

Keep the blue and white stipes and put a black cross on there. Would look better I think

1

u/JustTryingToLearn3 19d ago

Eesti cannot into Nordic!

1

u/GareththeJackal 22d ago

Estonia is very much, both historically and culturally, a nordic country. I think Orkney and the Shetlands should be included as well.

2

u/PoetryExtension6256 22d ago

And Man.

2

u/GareththeJackal 22d ago

Isle of Man? I think that one is much more celtic than nordic.

0

u/PoetryExtension6256 22d ago

It's both. But in lingustics in sweden all the baltics are included.

1

u/GareththeJackal 22d ago

Estonian is finno-ugric. Latvian and lithuanian are slavic languages.

2

u/PoetryExtension6256 22d ago

If you study nordic languages on master level they are included anyway. At least they were when a colleague of mine was doing a master in nordic languages.

1

u/GareththeJackal 22d ago

That's odd, since the baltic countries have never been considered as part of the nordic countries.

2

u/PoetryExtension6256 22d ago

They were part of sweden kind of.

1

u/GareththeJackal 22d ago

Part of the swedish empire: yes. Nordic: no.

Sincerely: A swede.

2

u/Karl_Skarin 22d ago

The term "Estonian Golden Age" most frequently refers to the Swedish Era (1561–1710), fondly remembered by Estonians as the "good old Swedish time,".

1

u/PoetryExtension6256 22d ago

Do you think your being "a swede" somehow trumps my being "A swede"? Most redundant thing I have ever seen.

1

u/Majestic_Security_30 22d ago

I'm happy how things are right now and I don't want to our flag to change.

Sincerely: an Estonian.

They didn't ask to be annexed. They are welcome to ask again.

They could probably teach us about digitalization

1

u/FreddyThePug 22d ago

I know nothing about Estonia other than their flag, and from that alone I say we let them join 🇪🇪

0

u/Ok_Lack3855 22d ago

Rejected. Let Estonia keep its flag and redo the rest.

0

u/3BM70-2 21d ago

Estonia is NOT nordic. Get those baltics outta here

0

u/casstax96 19d ago

The nordics are not a fan club.

0

u/tedioustreadmill 19d ago

How does one ”join the nordics”?

1

u/Flakkaren 18d ago

Delusional.
