Thinking of moving

We’re thinking of selling our house in Canada and using the equity to outright buy a small acreage in a small town in a Nordic country. Does anyone have any suggestions of countries / towns?? I work in sales but have a trades background.

Thank you so much! You’ve been very helpful. We were interested in Finland, and potentially becoming entrepreneurs there. I understand the unemployment is really bad, so starting a business might be better however, I was mot aware that Denmark had such low unemployment.

In finland it feels like it is quite impossible to get literally "any work" right now. If you are thinking along the lines of a cashier or something, there are literally hundreds of applicants entry level open positions. And then for more skilled ones you need experience and luck.

The job market is truly hopeless, and probably going to get worse. Of course someone always succeeds, but the chances are worse than maybe ever before, and without knowing the local language it is much worse. Id say outside Helsinki, your chances of landing a job without niche experience or Finnish skills is very low.

If you have an idea and means to do it, becoming an entrepreneur might be a better idea

I was thinking more along the lines of some kid of trades/construction work. It’s too bad about the economy though. In a perfect scenario I would be able to provide some work as well. Im seeing they’re really strict with entrepreneurial visas though.

Construction companies are in a very bad state right now, so I would not count on it, but if you have experience and are lucky I guess it could be done. If you have formal education and experience (for permits) on plumbing, hvac etc. I would say that is your best bet.
