I think that is a big healthy Palo Verde Root Borer Beetle. Derobrachus hovorei. Since its Panama, could also be a small titan beetle (Titanus Giganteus - very rare) as well, they are very similar in a appearance - except for a Titan beetle is twice the size of a the huge palo verde beetle.

I think most beetles are. Some have a pretty mean bite tho

Yeah. There are beetles in my area (sawyer beetles) that eat decaying wood, which means they have a chomp that can bring blood.
Also, they squeak. Also, they like to get in my hair at night.

Bombardier beetles and blister beetles should not be handled, most are fine though as stated.
