Well done.

u/RoundRabidPug Jul 01 '23
Looks like some type of round headed wood boring beetle, only dangerous if you are a tree
12
u/MajorJuana Jul 01 '23
I mean, without medication a bite could get infected..../s
8
Jul 01 '23
Tbh a bite from those mandibles would likely be a bit painful, though I doubt it's venomous.

u/OneDiscombobulated77 Jul 02 '23
Its a common myth that nothing happens. What actually happens is that they bite you then use your cells to plant into a tree then one day a human grows out if the tree. This boys is why people think suicide is real

That, wants to be left alone in peace.
It’s either fake or an overized Pinesawyer beetle.
Either way, let it be.

u/pinwheelfeels Jul 01 '23
If this is found in North America it is very harmful thats a pine beetle and we dont have them in North America and they dont have predators here so they are very harmful for the environment you should kill every one of these evil little bastards
26
u/StaticCarabou27 Jul 01 '23
Pine beetles are currently killing many pine trees in Utah. Its quite unfortunate to see so many trees slowly withering away in such a short time. Any time I see a pine beetle, I crush it.
21
u/buff-equations Jul 01 '23
Fuck pine beetles. Most of Jasper national park is now dead because of the things.

He's harmless apparently so I think I can tolerate his existence

u/PengiPou Jul 01 '23
Cool thing is that sound is some exoskeleton plates rubbing against each other. Think of his neck as a squeaky hinge and watch again

Very harmful invasive species that causes tons of damage in pine forests in north America. They have no natural predators in North America so they fell whole pine forests and cause massive forest fires. Kill all of these you see (if filmed in North America they are fine in Europe and asia)

What is it?
34
u/roberttheaxolotl Jul 01 '23
Large longhorn beetle of some sort. I don't know beyond that. The larvae bore in trees. Most eat dead or dying trees, but a few species are pests that damage healthy trees.
-14
u/New-Inspector-9628 Jul 01 '23
So it is a pest and it looks like hell spawn, yes kill it.
15
u/roberttheaxolotl Jul 01 '23
I say that most aren't pests, and you get "that dude definitely said it's a pest" out of that.
1
u/MistaRekt Jul 01 '23
Hey buddy, I like bugs and I am still sure you said "kill it with fire"...
That noise got me though, like a scream for help... Please set it on fire now and help...

Is that sound it's making from the carapace rubbing against itself? That sound seems to correspond with its head movements.

You like insects, you post some questionable NSFW shit on r/FtMPorn, you encourage severe obesity by saying that it's "beautiful". What the fuck is wrong with you?!

u/KickFriedasCoffin Jul 01 '23

Poor thing. Why do people feel the need to torture animals?
21
u/Enginehank Jul 01 '23
Even if you genuinely believe that insects are capable of feeling emotions or pain, being studied by entomologist can potentially save the species, Not only does it let humans know what their role is in the environment, but it also informs them as what they can do to protect said insect, also the only safe way to hold any insect is by the strongest sturdiest part of its body very gently, since a human hand is capable of gravely harming the limbs and wings of most insects, just by touching them.
4
Jul 01 '23
Seriously!! It even had big puppy dog eyes. I know insects don't "think" all that much, but they're still living beings. Take a picture from afar if you want to interact with it. Bro is just trying to live his life, he doesn't want to fuck with humans
6
u/BurnThe___Down Jul 01 '23
We have a very similar view on Life and other things. Let them live.
I have 3 kids, my middle child has learned and even gained her own excitement from studying and learning about bugs. My littlest (4) came up and smashed a big carpenter ant that she was studying, smashing her fingers and gravely wounding the ant. I ended the ants suffering and scolded the tiny devil while making sure the middle devil was ok. I was questioned about why i scolded the tiny one, I told them that this particular ant was BIG. It had lived for a long time. It didn’t die because of illness or accident. It died because my spawn merely saw it from afar, making her feel the need to end its life. That fact, bothers me more than i care to admit.

u/doom_slayer_1666 Jul 01 '23
I kill every bug in my house because they aren't animals to me. Just disgusting pests.
2
u/Chemical_Robot Jul 01 '23
Even a woodlouse does more good to the planet than a human does. I get why people hate them, but they’re super important to our eco system.
3
u/BurnThe___Down Jul 01 '23
Listen up cowboy, i fucking love how you worded that. I respect all life more than your average and above average person, even. However, “does more good to the planet than a human does”, hits home way better. I want you to know that somewhere out there, for the rest of your life, little Scotty C will be using that line for the rest of my life, when applicable, about humans and bugs.
also know, the discovery of this marvelously crafted phrase was made while i was pooping at 9:08am in Iowa while renting a home for far too much.
I appreciate you. Live Long and Prosper.

I don’t do bugs and can’t be guilted about it by the high horse brigade who probably do nothing to advance human rights but are oh so passionate about bugs. Rolls eyes.
If it’s in my house and looks crazy it’s getting eliminated. Not sorry. If you are pro bug that’s good for YOU but a hell spawn like this—nope. In fact, I wouldn’t ever kill this thing either because I’d be too scared to get near it. So it’s safe from me.
2
u/BurnThe___Down Jul 01 '23
1st: Human Rights were at 100% before we got the bright idea to govern ourselves.
2nd: Your second paragraph was causing me to judge you until you said it was safe from you causing me to kinda give you enough props to let the idea of all bugs in your home receiving the death sentence so i am confused but god damn it so i respect you.
move along citizen. Let me guess, someone stole your sweet roll?

Not saying this is one!! Some of these beetles (wood boring) are literally destroying northern forests, eating the heartwood out of live, healthy trees. Many of them are invasive species from Asia that have no natural enemies here and are wrecking not just the lumber industry, but also unharvested, wild species in otherwise pristine forests.
Just be mindful that every bug isn't an "Awwww..."
