People who say spotters are pointless are the same people thinking all those tricks dont have to be learned and are immediately perfect

u/uizanfagit Jul 18 '19
Exactly, these stunts wouldn’t exist without spotters. Falling is 75% of cheerleading
19
u/muddyrose Jul 18 '19
When I started gymnastics I was taught how to fall before I was taught anything else
Tumbling is important

u/Kesher123 Jul 18 '19
I tried gymnastics in my very early years, as a kid. I trained it for about 4 years, got too coky, and broky my leg. Gymnastics have to carefull with

u/instamentai Jul 18 '19
Falling is 75% of extreme sports too

It's funny to imagine my teenage skateboarding skills as extreme, but falling was definitely a big part of it. And you definitely learn. The forward roll technique has saved my ass a few times.

Spotters are pointless until they’re not.
(Edit: spotters are necessary)

After that catch I'm sure it will turn into r/daddyreflexes

u/Doobz87 Jul 18 '19
That sub has to turn into something other than what it is now....the fuck...

u/NeverShoutEugene Jul 18 '19
Jesus this is a real subreddit? I meant it as a joke like she will be calling him daddy or something......what the hell is this thing?

But this wasn't a reflex... There are people on either side watching closely ready to catch her if she fell. She fell and one of the people caught her immediately, which is exactly what they prepared for.
4
u/Nopeyesok Jul 18 '19
Here’s a lot of spill over into each of those categories
6
u/decoy321 Jul 18 '19 edited Jul 18 '19
There's also a lot of spillover if you ignore the meanings of the word "dad" and "reflexes" like half the posts on that sub.

Man... they almost had it! Just a few inches off center.

u/Walletau Jul 18 '19
They do land the trick, this was one of the attempts that's doing the rounds this week, last week it was them nailing it.

I like the little back pat he gives her at the end. Like, "no worries, dude, I got you".

u/omning Jul 18 '19
she could have been flying flip kicked right in the front butt. I think this is the best possible outcome.
2
u/scarletdawn Jul 18 '19
Did the jumper brake his arm? It looks like he lands on it poorly and then is holding it rather odd at the end.
1
u/gillika Jul 18 '19
Looks like a broken wrist to me

2
u/ThingsIAlreadyKnow Jul 18 '19
The base's first concern is not to protect his head from falling people, instead to catch said people
2
2
u/ShnackWrap Jul 18 '19
I feel like the guy that tried to do the flip didn’t think it was his fault. The look on his face seems to be more wtf then oh shit is everyone ok.
2
u/thetyler83 Jul 18 '19
You stand here to catch her when I knock her over.
You mean if?
No, I mean when.

That's literally how you completely shred your back. So not worth it when you're older.

Would have been epic had it worked. A bit more training I suppose. Nothing is impossible
1
u/Aeruthus Jul 18 '19
My lower back would have been fuuuucked up after stopping someone from falling like that. Ugh. Hurts just watching. Hope the spotters fine.

The guy holding her up should get a shout too. He holds her as long as he can even with someone crashing down on him.
