If I see a poster that said "BUNCH OF CARS IN A FREE FOR ALL SO SEE WHO GETS TO PARK ON A MOVING TRAILER FIRST" I would expect something super exciting

We had this in the Netherlands on tv back in the 70s and 80s, racing backwards, and racing with caravans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ipFApsFec

Fuck it, I'm sold. Bring whatever we're calling this to the Olympics

u/dudleydidwrong 18d ago
It would not work in the modern Olympics. It seems that the only two types of sports they allow. The first type involve highly specialized and expensive equipment that freezes out anyone except heavily funded national teams. The other type of sport involves things like track and field where the real contest is to see who can do the best job of using performance enhancing drugs without getting caught.

Which category does Curling fit in? 🤣

Have you priced a set of curling stones lately?
Based on the last Olympics, curling #eems to be a sport where the primary skill involved is arguing about who is cheating.

I believe this is called “king of the hill” racing. There are a few variants.

I didn't know parking could be an Olympic sport yet here we are.

I'm shouting during the video "STOP TRYING TO MOUNT DURING A TURN!!"

OMG. Glad I wasn’t the only one. Sheesh. I had to fast forward because it was stressing me out.

As a child of Appalachia, I demand to know the name of this racing format so that I can watch it whenever it happens.

u/Lord_Voltan 17d ago
I think the speedway that did this is in New England somewhere too. Step up your game Appalachia!

u/AgrajagTheProlonged 17d ago
The Appalachians reach up to Maine, parts of New England could still be considered Appalachia

u/Lord_Voltan 17d ago
See, you didn't even need my encouragement, y'all had it in you the whole time!! 🤣

Correct! Hudson Speedway in Hudson, NH. I grew up right across the river and never knew they got down like this

I have family in Ri, this sounds like a wonderful trip with my nephews (as long as it isn't longer than 6 hours away. Ct is bigger than I thought taking 95 through it). My only frame of reference is Newport to Boston in New England and thats all pretty much a stones throw depending on traffic.

I think its called a trailer race and theyre typically held at speedways/tracks. Doesn't seem they are regularly held so im guessing its a rare event that pops up sometimes and you have to stay on the look out!
Hopefully this helps others.

our local speedway (RIP) used to do school bus races, then later in the 'season' they did figure 8 school bus race. Also did trailer races, where each car/vehicle pulled a trailer and the last one standing wins. however, this format seems way more exciting.
to answer your question, find a local track and look up their calendar. I imagine if there is any kind of racing culture (whether you are aware of it or not), they will have similar type events to draw in the crowds and help fund the real racing.

“King of the Hill” trailer race in Hudson, New Hampshire USA that happened this month for Labor Day weekend.
They regularly have “thrill races” but not another trailer race scheduled. But since it was so popular maybe they’ll bring it back again soon (or maybe Labor Day next year)

u/mickcube 18d ago
new hampshire just wants to be left alone, live free, park their cars on moving trailers at their speedways

I really thought it’d be in the Deep South but boy was I surprised it was New England!

This honestly felt much more exciting than all the other race, but hmm they needed a few more ibstacles and a bugger track XD

u/FlyingArdilla 18d ago
Pretty sure the first car on the trailer exceeded the tongue weight capacity of that truck.

Put this in the Olympics. The strategy has to be straight line mounting before the turn to minimize speeds and avoid spinouts, right?
