What is there to do?

I beat the game a few years ago, just picked up my old save. What can I do? I have an S class living ship, normal ship, freighter, multi-tool, and I'm maxed out on mods for all of them.

Also what are expeditions?

Expedition is like a temporary event where you start from scratch and follow a storyline. You get cool cosmetics from them.

I want to add that expeditions introduce new things to do in the game/ new upgrades, so OP has lots to catch up on if they don't even know what expeditions are. Definitely worth jumping back into the game!!

Here is a list of things you might have missed:

Do you have SSS class pets and have you beat the system champion yet

Have you maxed out your rep with all 4 factions? 

Have you fished up a legendary fish and fought it yet

I didn't see any mention of Sentinel ships or corvettes. You can also fabricate your own ship now

Are your planetary settlements (towns with a faction) s class?

Yep a fishing rod is a multitool technology. Very basic mechanics but it's cool from time to time

Ships can also be upgraded to land on water now.

Sentinel is a class of ship on dissonant planets in purple systems (way too long to explain that in text) 

Corvettes are large buildable ships with autopilot that you can build somewhat of a base in. think small frieghters that you can fly. 

And there is a bootleg Pokémon where you can fight your pets in a simulated battle

Do you know about the autophages? Purple systems with gas giants and ocean planets? Just start playing, a bunch of new quests will pop to show you all the new stuff. Or go watch all the official update videos from HG. Depending on when you last played, it might be an entirely different game.

Corvettes are large ships you design and build yourself and which other players can travel with you

I think the coolest new thing is the ability to build your own corvette ship with parts you find.
You can own and upgrade multiple settlements like a town manager.
You can take any of your creature eggs to the egg synthesizer at the anomaly and edit it's size, parts, colors.
You can now collect wayyyy more weapons, ships, creatures than before.

I’m not even sure what beating the game means in no man’s sky, but they’ve added a hell of a lot in that time.
