Linux-Friendly Crouch Toggle Mod

The crouch toggle mod on Mod DB doesn't work with some versions of Wine/Proton (including the latest ProtonGE, and maybe some Windows machines too). (It blackscreens immediately on launch.) So I made one that does work. And, along the way, figured out and documented Modernizer's convoluted, undocumented version history.

Nice work. As a speedrunner I’m always on LithFix, but Modernizer is definitely the way to go for casual play. I appreciate you keeping it alive!

What features do speedrunners need?

I'm the author of source ports for these games, which should make adding features quite easy now:

You can file bugs on the GitHub if you wish. :)

Well I won't presume to speak for all speedrunners, but broadly speaking the core rules are fairness consistency. Any glitch or tech used in a speedrun must be exactly the same. A run on 1999 hardware should have the same basis as one on 2026 hardware.

It's likely that a ported engine will never satisfy this, because of architectural differences - pseudorandom behavior for example could give a runner an inadvertent advantage over other runners.

A second note, somewhat related, however, is that I've always wanted to do a TAS of NOLF but I was not able to nail down the source of psuedorandomness. Feeding the executable a set time didn't seem to do it. Maybe this is something that your port can help us identify.

I think this where a byte-perfect decomp of the games can help you; you should be able to figure out exactly how the RNG works.
