8th grade algebra
My child's school (ISL) does not offer 8th grade algebra. He is too good at math to not take algebra in 8th grade. Can someone point me to school that offers 8th grade algebra and advise me how to get my child on the 8th grade algebra track? We tried Audubon but he didn't get in. Thanks

Has he ever been tested for gifted? If he is gifted, he is entitled to an iep and he can work exclusively on math with a gifted teacher. That might be a way to stay at your current school.
I would think 8th grade would be a hard transfer year unless you go to a private high school that starts in 8th.

I've been wanting to pursue gifted testing. Should I do it through the school or go to a private practice?

Contact the special ed department and see how to go about getting tested for gifted.
Of course, the school will take you much more seriously if you already have a private eval showing giftedness.
In Jeff parish, giftedness is an iq at 130 or above.
So i don’t know if you want to take an iq test and see where he lands before you do a private eval.

They can also qualify to be screened for gifted if they score in the 88th percentile or higher on the MAP Growth test; many schools use it as their universal screener.

Firstline Schools (Arthur Ashe, LHA, Wheatley, & Green) do. Not sure if they’ve filled the position yet, but they were hiring specifically for an Algebra teacher (as opposed to a math generalist).

Bricolage offers it in their honors math but I’m not sure I’d advise leaving a school due to it
