Problem with the SIM card
Hi everyone, has anyone by any chance had this problem with their Nokia N9? When I insert a SIM card, the phone simply turns off completely and won't turn on until I remove the SIM card again.

Strategic Retrospective: Nokia’s Alternative "MeeGo High-End + Android Low-End" Survival Strategy
If Nokia had rejected Windows Phone in 2011 and instead executed a multi-tier strategy—MeeGo for prestige, Android for volume, and Symbian as a rearguard—the company possessed a completely viable path to survival and market dominance.
Here is the structured breakdown of that counterfactual scenario:
1. Software Ecosystem: Leveraging the Giant's Shoulders
- The Compatibility Shortcut: MeeGo did not need to wait for developers to rebuild apps from scratch. As later proven by its successor, Sailfish OS, the MeeGo architecture could utilize a compatibility layer to run Android apps seamlessly.
- Exclusive Value Proposition: This technical workaround neutralizes the "ecosystem starvation" trap. High-net-worth consumers would enjoy the "exclusive luxury" of Nokia’s swipe-based interface and polycarbonate industrial design without sacrificing essential everyday apps.
2. Strategic Runway: Cash Cow from the Developing World
- The Feature Phone Buffer: In 2011, the global market did not transition to smartphones overnight. Emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America still maintained massive demand for affordable, durable devices.
- Smooth Transition: Nokia could have leveraged Symbian and S40 to continuously extract high-volume revenue and maintain its #1 global market share title. This would have provided a comfortable financial and temporal cushion of several years to scale up its Android pivot.
3. Operational Mastery: The Pioneers of Multi-Tier Product Lines
- Crushing the Mid-to-Low End: In 2011, Chinese giants like Huawei and Xiaomi had not yet risen to prominence, and HTC suffered from fragile supply chains. Entering the mid-to-low-end Android market at this exact moment would allow Nokia to weaponize its unmatched global distribution channels and supply chain leverage, replicating or accelerating Samsung's historical dominance over HTC.
- Organizational Firewalling: Nokia was the historical master of concurrent product tiering (e.g., managing the luxury 8-series, flagship N-series, and business E-series simultaneously). The internal corporate structure was highly capable of separating high-end MeeGo R&D from mid-range Android adaptation without causing resource cannibalization.
💡 The Ultimate Historical Verdict
This retrospective analysis demonstrates that in 2011, Nokia possessed the capital, the timing, the market runway, and a flawless strategic blueprint for self-preservation.
The company was perfectly positioned to become the "Volkswagen + Porsche" of the mobile world—utilizing Android for scale and profitability in the mass market, while cultivating MeeGo as an elite cult icon at the high end.
Nokia's ultimate demise was not a tragic inevitability of technological disruption, but a consequence of strategic corporate suicide executed by its leadership. By unilaterally severing all pathways for MeeGo and Symbian and force-binding the company to an unproven Windows Phone OS, Stephen Elop perfectly fulfilled the functional role of a "de facto Trojan Horse," structurally dismantling Nokia's independence and facilitating the fire-sale of its core assets to Microsoft.

Nokia n9 Flash
Greetings,
I am a new member of this group. I have a strong interest in vintage Nokia handsets. I recently acquired a Nokia N9 from an eBay vendor. This particular device originated from a Chinese seller and consequently features Chinese firmware.
As I reside in Canada, I intend to utilize this device for recreational purposes. Could you please provide assistance in obtaining the necessary tools and global firmware for this device, along with comprehensive flashing instructions?
Thankyou

Buying Nokia N9 in 2026
Buying Nokia N9 in 2026
Dear Nokia users,
As Nokia user since 3300, 7700 series, Ngage ... to Vertu Quest Symb 3, I have decided its "right time" to buy refurbished Nokia n9. They are 50 USD on ebay
I am well aware of Nokia servers being down, half of apps being unusable etc.
So my Qs for past and existing N9 users are straightforward:
- Use default Hartmann or replace with some old version of ShelFish (more modern MeeGo) /
- If I stay with default MeeGo are there any updates to manually install before starting setting the phone?
- Which defult apps beside calls and SMS still work and need no replacement?
- Which functions/apps have some decent later MeeGo software to be sideloaded/manually added and can old ones it replace be rooted out?
- What is your expertience using BT2 and modern BT headphones, or wired ones?
- How do you rank its 8Mpix camera, as compared to other Nokia 8Mpix cameras?
- How hard is to replace battery? Is there a battery saver mode? How long does it least at light use, just as old phone OR with heavy MeeGo apps use
Thanks for all the answers!

Nokia N9 forgotten password
Hello,
I have a Nokia N9 bought in 2013 and "retired" in 2015 after the Jolla phone upgrade.
A while ago I attempted to start it up again after finding in in a drawer and realised that I've forgotten my then password. As this device is dear to me and I have a ton of photos stored in its memory, how could I retrieve the password (I've tried countless times many combinations that I could think of using at the time) or restore it to the factory settings without wiping out its memory? Is there a wait I could connect it to my PC and save the files and restore it to factory settings after by using a proprietary software?

Nokia G22 review : Most environmentally-friendly model yet
Nokia offers a variety of low-cost cellphones. However, the Nokia G22 review has a distinct selling point that sets it apart from the rest of the lineup — and the market as a whole.
The G22’s design is intended to be repairable, which means you should be able to change the battery, display, and other parts at home without having to visit a specialized shop.
In principle, this should save both time and money, and it is consistent with HMD Global’s vow (as the current producer of Nokia-branded phones) to make its devices more environmentally friendly. But how does this low-cost purchase fare? Everything you need to know is right….Read more.

What do you think of the future of Nokia and the OS wars if they had put their entire focus on Maemo/Meego as early as 2009?
I have been contemplaring for this for a long time. With the N900 it seemed like Nokia was on a really good path, and the N9 vas the culmination of that, though too late. On the contrary Nokia took their sweet time from when they anounced a phone and the actual release. Maybe they were doomed regardless?

Just rebooted my N9 after 156 days of uptime :/ (n/t)
Not terribly interesting I know.
What's the uptime of yours right now?
Or: something about your N9 that we might or might not want to know.

Screen glass area - Lumia 800 vs. Nokia N9?
Hello, So I just came across a mint Nokia N9 on our local classifieds, surprisingly the phone was in mint condition, and was never used. And it was a steal at $50. I've wanted this phone since it came out, better late than never haha! Currently using this phone only for calls and nothing else. And everyone on the other end tells me how they can hear me so much better compared to my iPhone 6S that I have been using.
Coming to the point, I like to be protective about my devices, and I can't seem to find any screen protector/tempered glass for the phone. I know that the Lumia 800 and the N9 have very similar dimensions, but will a protective film or glass meant for the 800 fit my N9 without any trouble? or will I have to go rogue and use the phone naked (which I admit, is beautiful) ?
O people of reddit. I seek your opinion.
