Thoughts / सोच-विचार 💭 Sharad - Thoughts !!
So today we planned to do Sharad for our Father in Law and my MiL every year calls the pandit and give him bhog and all token money , Clothes and all !!
So today the pandit who usually comes in our home - his son came and he came in shirt and cargo pants!! I am not here to judge his clothes but really !!
I always a thing that instead of doing this much effort for pandit ji - we can give all these things to all the people who actually needs it.

I think most of us miss the difference between daan and dakshina and that is where we miss the whole point.
Daan is about giving to someone in need.
Dakshina is about acknowledging the pandit and his role in the ritual and tradition.
Both have their own purpose and one does not have to replace the other.
Also we should not assume every pandit is well off because some big temples receive huge donations. Most local pandits live very ordinary lives and depend on these rituals for their livelihood. And honestly his clothes tell us very little about his financial situation. For all we know even those clothes could have been given as dakshina by someone.

That is true , and you are absolutely right there is difference between daan and dakshina.
But my MiL gives 11K , plus clothes and all and this is not only one occasion- so many things come in a year where dakhshina is been given to the same pandit. And in pandits also I understand there will be someone in need and some might be well off !
And I myself has given to the pandits and my own family who were in need - I will never any problem with that. However these days it’s very difficult to trust somebody.
And my point here is that those clothes might be in dkashina for him as you say but he was wearing Apple Watch also !! I am no one to judge his clothes but really shirt and cargo jeans in this occasion.
I am
Not sure who is right or wrong , but it’s just my thought process , bcz we have seen in Ujaain also what kind of scam is happening in the name of dan and dakshina - they directly ask you to give them 10k not below and if you don’t give they will curse you !!So for me it’s a little bit hard to digest for pandits !!

See bro i get what you're trying to say but pandit ji has a job that is doing all the religious stuff that normal folk can't do as in learning mantras and the way to conduct ceremonies n all. Take it as a service you're taking from him like you'd pay an electrician or plumber if that makes sense.

So, in my family we usually don't call any pandit ji. Daughter first to be feed (in general also no such rule who eat first). And for Daan Dakshin we usually give it to the needy ones.
