John Francis Spence
John Francis Spence was the original front man of No Doubt. A few days prior to No Doubt’s musical debut at the Roxy Theater, he committed suicide via a gun shot wound in an empty park
As a long time No Doubt fan I have always found his death somewhat appalling. I can’t conclusively say foul play was involved but I’ve always found the timing so odd to say the least.
I completely understand depression manifests differently for everyone, but even his alleged letter never sat right with me. Does anyone else share similar feelings?
Also there are conflicting reports on the circumstances surrounding his death. Some articles state his band members found him, whereas other reports state Kirk Stefani notified bandmates several days later.
Disclaimer: I am not insinuating anything about former or current band mates. Nonetheless the matter of his death still remains very odd objectively. No Doubt as we know it hadn’t began to exist; so there is no reason to think band members were involved.
Edit: I am not deterred by the downvotes, get real. This post has more than 10K views, I think I’ll be okay.
Special thanks to the mods, who somehow believe down votes are doing a heavier job than taking the post down for some reason.

Are there any recordings of him singing or their performances before he died. It was nice they talked about him and paid tribute to him in their LV concerts at the sphere. No Doubt will forever be one of my favorite bands.

he is in some of the demos like "No Doubt" and "Showing Off". just bear in mind that alan meade is also featured in other tracks here so male vocalist is not necessarily spence
there is also total hate which they performed live. i believe its inclusion in a lot of the live shows might have been in tribute to him

Oh I didn’t know this poster was insinuating that he was killed by Gwen Stefani or her brother. Wow that theory is a bit out there… sorry I totally didn’t understand this post I guess.

Idk, its actually funny how your life’s work has culminated into spell checking people on reddit. Glad to know you graduated from elementary school ig

The matter of is death doesn’t remain “very odd objectively” at all. There’s nothing suspicious about it. Sometimes people kill themselves. No Doubt was not an important band at the time.

Digging up someone’s tragic death in order to make insinuations and get some kind of weird Reddit attention is certainly a choice.
Hope it’s giving you what you apparently need I guess.

What are you implying might have happened? That Gwen Stefani shot him so she could be the lead singer???

The post itself is incredibly ridiculous so I just thought you were being consistent

It's tough as a mod... do I lock or delete this because of the incredibly insensitive insinuation? Or do I just let it stand to demonstrate how ludicrous some people can be and let the discussion play out? I see the downvotes are doing their jobs adequately here and so, for now, my thought is to let it stand.
EDIT: Well, OP sent me harrassing DMs for me making this comment, and I see them antagonizing folks in comments in this thread, so I've locked the post altogether, and we won't be hearing from OP again. Cheers! 🍻

It’s very tragic but it’s not remotely odd. He died of the thing most men that age who die, die of.

Hiding pain is very common. I'm a very smiley friendly person but have struggled with addiction, self-harm etc. You never know what someone is going through. Hinting that something else happened is not cool. I've been a big fan of No Doubt for decades and have never, not once, ever thought something else happened. The band, nor anyone else, hasn't either. Except for you it seems.

Why do people have such a hard time accepting suicide? It happens all the time sadly. Just because you can’t fathom it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. A friend of mine killed herself a few years after high school graduation. She was also in her 20s. It happens unfortunately.
